Last night I was pokin around on CL and I found a XP with a blown motor. The guy says it is a 95 XP 800, I didn't think they made the XP with a 787 in 95? It is yellow and appears to have been painted but I think it is a 96 model. Anyways the guy that is selling it told me he didn't really know anything about it, selling for a friend who had deceased, wife. He said all he knew was that the engine was blown. I looked it over there was no bat. so I couldn't check electronics or compression I forgot to try and turn the motor over by hand. But here is what I know, everything was there, I believe the motor is an SBT due to its silver color, and over all it was pretty clean. The only thing I can tell is after market are the beach house sponsons, and the paint looks perfect and really nice. They are asking $400 I offered $300 but they didn't want to budge. So my question is, obviously its a gamble with the motor and electical system, but is it worth it? also is there some way I can check for sure what the year is? Thanks

Hi, They did make a XP 800 in 95 also in 96. Check the last 2 digits of the vin number at the back of the hull...that will tell you the yr. xxxxx95=yr 95, xxxx96 = yr of 96. Ask if they know when the SBT was installed. Have a buddy call and offer $250, then you call back the next day and offer the 3H again maybe go to 350.

Oh ok cool, I will have to check the VIN. They were not really sure when it was installed, It would be nice if it just needs a top end. Haha, that's a good idea about having a buddy call, I will have to remember that one. I believe I have worked out a straight up trade with a single ski trailer, Im hoping it will out.

If it's a true 95 XP800, the hull would be two tone on the bottom, but being painted you can't tell. BUT, it does have the mirrorless hood which was standard on the 95 XP800, although that is a popular upgrade from and SPX or the like and the "hump" seat . If you want to test the electronics, take a car battery (if you don't have one, go to Walmart, then return it and just tell them you found out it was your starter was bad), then just use a pair of jumper cables to attach to the battery leads. BE CAREFUL AND TAPE OVER THE CLIPS SO THEY DON'T TOUCH AND SHORT OUT, you'll kill the MPEM for sure. Best of luck, a very cool machine!

In my post here you'll see a pic of a 95 XP800 in the first pic.

Thanks racer, and I must say i've been following your project, your doing some awesome work on that one. I'm waiting to see your finished product. I just got an email back and he is wanting to do the trade, hopefully by this time tomorrow I will be the proud new owner. I think it looks really cool too, I love the two tone paint. Also I did notice the hump seat as well and was wondering about that? Was that a factory part from a 95 or is it from another model?

Hey thanks for the kind words. It was the seat that started on the 95 XP 800's and was used again on the 99 SPX. Best of luck to your deal, hope you didn't pay too much on the trailer. Always better to trade up like on Barter Kings, BA BAM!

Yes I wont say how much yet, but it will defiantly be a good deal for me, I will give more details tomorrow after I get it. This is kinda wierd, but I googled a 99 SPX like you were saying had the hump seat (to be honest I did not even know they made those that year) and the factory color of them is two tone yellow/black. This may be a coincidence, and I will know tomorrow for sure using seadoobuddy's advice by checking the vin, but I just wonder if it could be a 99 SPX and they have mistaken it for a XP? The gelcoat That would be pretty cool if it was, I would imagine they are somewhat rare, I have never seen one atleast around my neck of the woods. This is a good example of one I found on google.

Yeah, nice!!!!!!!!!!!! Check the HIN, like posted before the last 2 are the year (95). There should also be another HIN tag under the gas tank, but you'd need to remove the tank to read it--not worth it. I hope the deal goes well for you, I know I'm stoked for you to get it! Post some pics when you get it.

It's worth the $400 even if the engine is locked. If you lived around me then I would have bought this out from under you tonight while you dilly-dallied. Bring it home soon and enjoy your victory.

Well it took a day or two but I can now say I am the proud owner of this ski. The guy with the trailer I was going to buy and trade for this fell through :cuss: but I just had to have it, so I went back and handed the guy four. I looked it over, and indeed it is a 95 XP 800, manufacture date I believe says 6-24-1995. I figured out from the PO's wife that he did have it painted, apparently he took off the pink graphics and the ski looked corny with just the pink bottom of the tail, so he had it painted black. Kinda unfortunate because from what I have read these are pretty rare machines. Anyhow here are some pictures I took this evening when I brought it home. The outside of the hull looks awesome, first ski I have bought I will not have to buff the hell out of lol. I think the hump seat is sick, I don't know why seadoo didn't stick with them after they made these. I plan to go completely through this ski, but I may have to wait till deeper into the winter as I have to much other stuff to do right now. I stoked I got it though and can't wait to start on it.

Also the guy was about to throw away three Odyssey battery's. I got them for free, I know one is good it is charging right now, hoping the other two are good as well. I was looking for one not to long ago for my GTX but did not want to spend $120 for one, score!

Nice, she'll clean up real good. Definitely had a heart transplant. Cleaner unit than I started with. Wow, 7 years off the water, that thing might not remember what the wet stuff is. Limited production of only 500 built. Good score.

There were more than 500 95XP80's sold. It takes a run of 500 to consider it a production model and therefore legal to race as one. I heard that there are only 500 real RXX's but that's a different story. My 95XP800 fell victim to the paint over as well (some men just couldn't take the pink). The hulls are lighter, the cylinder's have some porting, the pump extension is faster, I love them!

Hey, the first XP800's were the very first DESS and many dealers did not have the programers yet. It was the dealers responsibility to program the key and many times it didn't happen. The result is that half the XP800's out there will work with any DESS key.

Ya, everything I read online said 500 units produced, but who knows. Either way it is something you don't run across very often from what I gather. Doesn't really matter to me as I don't plan to sell it, but still pretty cool. That is pretty funny and interesting about the DESS keys I will have to give it a shot with some other keys. Yes the paint is unfortunate, but honestly I do like the two tone, and think it will look really good with a nice seat cover. Racer I agree it has been off the water for awhile, but I plan to refresh it's memory really fast next summer

I have been trying to get an answer on the 500 thing...I sure think its alot more than that on the XPs...the RXXs on everything I have read they made 500 and it took them a few years to sell them all.

You have to remember the early 2000's were not good years for bright/neon colors. Alot of pink decals got peeled.

You also know why the hump seat didnt stay in production right?? cheaper to make the other seat.

Its a sweet scheme...as much as I love stock cherry 95s...I also love customs.

Nice 95 Minnetonka!

I remember a friend of mine bought a 95 XP800 new from the dealer that sponsored him to race. From what he was told by the dealer was that every dealer was only getting two 95 XP800's, how true that is, I don't know, but that would probably keep the production numbers low. I don't recall our local dealer getting any. Still an awesome ski. Both XP's (720 and 800) in 95 had the pump spacer, I've seen a few spacers pop up lately for sale.

I agree with you Minnetonka, its not one you see for sale everyday, but it does seem like there are more than 500 out. 500 is just not a lot at all really, and for a 17 y/o ski seems like you see too many even on here and other forums for there to be only that many produced. It would be interesting to know for sure, and also where the "500" number came from. Is the one in the first pic yours?! Dam that thing is cherry. Can you guys tell me some more about them, i have read a few things about them but I would like to know what the differences in the 95 xp 800's and the 96 XP's.

I have heard that as well, 2 per dealer and that they were charging $1,000 over invoice. Also I googled and read last night on another forum a guy that had bought one new and said the same thing. He was lucky enough to find a dealer that the buyer for one of theirs backed out and he indeed paid the extra for it. He still had it and posted pictures of it. The wife of the guy I bought this from told me her husband had designed a website for a local dealer and the owner gave it to him, I suppose as payment, and that was about 10 or more years ago.

Theres just no way...they would have all been raced by now and there would hardly be any left. Thats what they were for right? Racing?

I swear I havent seen as many 98spx ads within 300 miles of me as I have 95 800s. Those things are scarce if you ask me.

I have a couple 95xp800s parted out...if you need anything just let me know.

That's good to know, I'm sure there will be a few things I will need, and I will definitely hit you up. Were the engines different from a normal 787 on this ski? Some one mentioned different porting? At first I thought due to the color of the engine it was SBT, but looking at it more and with the spare parts I got with this bike, Im almost thinking this guy would have rebuilt it himself and maybe just painted it. But i would like to know if there was a difference as I would like to get the original engine components if these have been replaced.

The 95xp800 came with a 787x motor... The difference is the cylinders came bored over 1mm from factory for displacement and a bit more power.

I'm sorry the 787x motor was bored .025 over because seadoo wanted there engine to be eligible for the 1200 racing class.
