Hi all, it's been a long time since I've been on here, I got sidetracked with a lot of things over the last couple of years. Last summer, I didn't even get on the lake once, but am looking to get both of my Seadoos running. Might sell them, might keep them, not sure yet.
Anyway, I charged the batteries in both Doos, a 95 SPX and 96 XP. I got the SPX to start once, which it is usually the easy one to brig out of winter storage. But now, the starter just spins and will not engage the flywheel. I'm guessing that the bendix is either messed up, or there is rust on the shaft that is preventing it from spinning out and engaging. I'm going to take that one off and see if that is the problem and try to sand or file any rust off.
The bendix on the XP is absolutely toasted. I rebuilt the starter, and then could never get it to engage the flywheel either. I took the starter out and the bendix is all rusted and I can't get it to spin out, even if I pry it with a screwdriver, while energizing it.
I need to find a starter for the XP, and possibly both, but remember there being some bad reviews of the SBT starters, at least i think it was those. Just wondering if their quality have improved at all over the last few years? I found both starters for $99 each if I need them, but as hard as starters are for me to put in/take out, I would rather not have to replace it again next year, just because i wanted to save a few $$.
