in lbs = ft lbs X 12 or ft lbs = inch lbs / 12

but metric units they are totallt meaningless to me.

...........and that coming from a fellow Canadian. :lol: I do agree though, I can relate to metric 95% of the time but there are still a few measurements that I can only relate to in the imperial system.

You wouldn't be the first one to mix up ft lbs and inch lbs. At least these units are kinda easy to visualize, ie you don't torque a 1/4 inch bolt to 88 ft lbs, but metric units they are totallt meaningless to me.

I now understan, thank goodness for my torque wrench.

Well picked up the ski from Jet Trenz on Tuesday. Ski ran fine and i was told it may need to be tuned in the water. Well went to the Dunedin Causeway today, ski tried to start but no luck. Took it home checked the plugs and everything looks good, but it won't start.

Any suggestions?.....

Would it crank but not start? You had run it on the trailer? I haven't read through this thread lately, but the battery is fresh/charged and the compression is good?

Brand new plugs, battery, and fuel lines. Cranks fine, just doesn't fire now. Engine was installed and checked by Jet Trenz.

Is it getting better? I know when I first hooked everything up on mine I had to keep dumping premix down the carbs until fuel made it through the system.

Like an average average unit is 230mm? Like that?

Not sure, but seem like alot of air in the gasline. Paid almost $500 and the the carbs aren't adjusted for the water. Ski is basically brandnew now.

yea the guy that did it builds race ski, i never adjust carbs beford and not sure what to do. Do i turn slow Speed first or the high?

Before you start adjusting stuff it sounds like the installer did not do a good job and if he builds race skis, it sounds like he should be the one ponying up for repairing this.

He made it seem like you can only adjust in the water. But i couldn't get it started in the water, to see how it idles.

not sure if anybody else recommends this, but if i have a hard time starting it, starter fluid does it for me, then it'll pull in gas into the lines if it's been sitting for a while or if i ran it dry with the fuel cut off before i let it sit, also if it died once giving it gas, could be voltage regulator?

I think the carbs weren't adjusted correctly. I'm afraid to attach it to a hose knowing it may stall and flood the engine.

as far as running it on a hose, i wouldn't even try that until it got started, and you're also supposed to have the engine going before even turning on the hose, so I wouldn't even worry bout running the water anyway

I wouldn't use starter fluid on a 2 stroke, or any engine for that matter. Better to squirt premix into the carb. I would open up the low speed mixture screws 1/4 turn and see if that helps.

Have you tried holding the throttle wide open when starting it? One time I switched from a finger to thumb throttle and had to readjust the cable to make it idle right again. It might be too far shut

I will try the low idle speed screw first, is that top one? I wouldn't have started the hose until it was running, I was afraid that when I did and the water load hit the engine, it would stall.

It seems like when it started yesterday it ran crappy and once I sheezed the throttle it would stall out.

Messing with the idle screws can be dangerous if you lean it out too much. Why didn't the guy who installed it take it out and tune it. It sounds like he didn't do the job correctly that you paid him to do if it won't run

A side from the carb adjustment issue, what do you guys thing of the finished product?

Well it looks excellent! Just get it running tho or its a lawn ornament! Lol. Also, if you have a heat gun hit the rear corner rub rails with a little heat and it will go from faded to pitch black like the rest of the rails! I do it on all of my skis and it always works!
