You’re welcome, if it were mine I would get it running correctly and drive it first. They always smoke after sitting, even from when they are put away in the fall till they are brought back out in the spring, actually upon every start up, I find they smoke, not till they have been running 3 or 4 minutes does the smoke clear up. What you are seeing is normalThank for the reply,
I bought this ski in 2020 non running. I never personally ran the ski so I don’t know the history. I would pull the head just to clean up the oil and build up.
I haven’t ran it that long but it just doesn’t feel quite right. I will run it for a bit and get back to you all. Thanks for the advice! You’re welcome, if it were mine I would get it running correctly and drive it first. Be careful of cleaning up the pistons and rings and then starting it up, you don’t want metal on metal. Good luck
If it were mine would run itSo I pulled the reeds and noticed some rust or carbon buildup on part of the crankshaft lobe. Does this warrant me splitting the case and inspecting? I think I know the answer but figured I would ask. Lol!
I agree with you… i pulled the motor yesterday and opened the case already. Oddly enough the surface rust was just limited to that area. Everything else looked good. Bearings were quiet and smooth. Seals look near new with no leakage anywhere. As far as the top end that looked okay as well. Before I pulled the engine both cylinders were about 140 psi within a couple PSI. One question I did want to ask is should I hone the cylinders and re-ring or leave it alone? That first crank picture looks like a lot of nasty surface rust. I would not be comfortable if it was mine.
That thing is super rich, you shouldn't have that much wet oil and fuel dripping off the pistons.
It is hard to tell if that is just fuel and oil on the cylinder walls or scoring.
I would double check needle and seats, pop-off springs and jets, that thing it rich!
Yes I thought it was excessive on the fuel as well. That definitely explained why it smoked a lot and was sluggish on the throttle. I will check the pop off pressure again. I re-jet the carbs to 98 specs and changed the needle and seat to the 98 specs as well.I agree with you… i pulled the motor yesterday and opened the case already.
