I have been working on my boat (project) all winter and finally get to take her out this weekend and i gotta say, this boat is funny. First i have problems getting everything to work electrically, then there are times where i cant get it started. I also have had times where I have almost vomited in the engine bay from being upside down to long (anyone been there?). So now my tach doesn't work sometimes and my fuel gauge didn't work till tonight. I think im just going to stop worrying about it and just launch the thing and see if it works itself out. Anyone else had trouble like this? I gotta say its still been a load of fun.

Well lets see, an 11 year old boat will need lots of TLC...but it will be worth it with some patience.

Well I took the boat out sat. and the best thing happened, it floated.:) It hasent seen water in 5 years but i went out sat., put it in the lake and it didn't sink. I checked for water leaks with the boat in the water without the engines running, i couldn't find a drop. That brings me to my first question. What can i use to clean the bilge of oil residue? Then i started port engine, it smoked a little but ran great. I then started starboard engine and i saw water leaking from the tune pipe where it looks like a casting plug might be. That brings me to my other question, what it the fix for that (JB Weld?). also i have some stumble in the engines when slowly accelerating. and suggestions? thanks. Other than that stuff I still have to say WHAT A BLAST!!!!!. I got the boat up to 45mph with 2 people in the boat. (is that sound about right?)

45mph with 2 is a good thing...You could do a temporary repair with JB weld, but the best way is to get it re-welded so it won't do it again. It sounds like the carbs might need a little TLC. Have the carbs been taken apart and cleaned? That sounds like the culprit. Be sure the carbs are in sink with each other and each engine. Check the throttle cables too, so they are in sync along with the oil injector cables. Do you have a seadoo manual? if not, the seadoo forum has one available at a small monthly fee, that you can down load and print off and use for your personal and private use. Click on the link at the top of the page under "manuals"...There is tons if information and diagrams to help out on your project.

Same thing happened to me on my project boat. I suggest you take the pipe out first and take a look not just at the plug but also the pipe it self. Mine was in bad shape. The pipe was actually falling apart due to the corrosion. Instead of attempting to fix it, i just got a used one from E-bay. You can see a crack line due to corrosion on the bad pipe. Soon my other motor developed the same problem so I just did the same thing.
Do not forget you need a new gasket that goes between the manifold and the tune pipe and some high temperature silicone that goes between the tune pipe and the pipe that follows it.

yeah, i have taken the pipe off and sanded down the trouble areas. it looks like the plugs are the weak spots for some reason. i cleaned all the plugs and found 2 of the 4 have holes in them from corrosion. im going to try my hand at JB Weld. they don't seem to be to bad. As for the carbs, I have one new carb i got off ebay and that is the one im having problems with. The high speed screw has only 1/4 adjustment (is that right?) Im using new gaskets from the link off this site (gaskets only, no RTV). I think if you clean the surface correctly then there shouldn't be any sealing problems. I do have a manual (first thing i got after i bought the boat). Well i'll let you know how the JB thing turns out. It takes a while for this stuff to cure so it might be a while before i get it where i want it. :)

If there is a gasket in there then yes no RTV. I was talking about the other end. Mine calls for RTV on the exit side of the pipe.

The high speed adjustment has a plastic cover on it so it will only adjust 1/4 turn with the plastic cover in place. The proper adjustment for the High speed screw is "0". with a small 1/4 adjustment, that usually dosen't need to be adjusted.

will that high speed screw make much of a difference with just a 1/4 adjustment? should i be good if i just put it back where it was? Also do all 40i carbs have the same jets? i just wonder if i have the wrong size carb on the other engine. I think i just might clean my old carb and put that back on. what do you think?

my understand'n, is a 1/4 turn to hsa is a HUGE adjustment.
Cant remember stud, what my jets were (had carbs off few wks ago, have ame boat). You got the manual?, if not..sure someone will know. Whats the prob?

thanks for everyones help. Are the jets stamped with there size? i'll just take it apart and look if thats the case?
