Just wondering if a mpem from a 93SP (pt# 278 000 070) would fit in a 94XP (pt# 278 000 071) thanks for the info. The SP is a 580 and the XP is a 657.

Good question...

For the age of the skis and them not using the DESS security system, you'd think it's possible. All these modules were before 96 was speed limiters with controllers.

I'd have to look this one up but from experience, you can't normally fit one module to the other of a different size motor. What you need to do is check the electrical system. There are 3 different charging systems that the Rotax uses. If your two motors used the same charging system, I think it could be possible.

oh! that sounds like alot of work and alot of knowledge....I don't mind the work but I'm alittle shy on the knowledge part....

Can I interchange?

NO! the timing sequential order is different in phase. The ignition curve is different, the flywheel & stator are different, Multple internal product accessories are different. The keyway relation to magnetic pulse pick-up positions are different. You need the specified or 657X 278000423 mpem.
MPEM's are Specific to engine flywheel & stator, wire harness(s), & accessories.
A 657 and a 657X engine are very different. four wire vs 5 wire stator.

I thought I'd get a risen from a member if I went with "oh, I don't know, maybe".....

I didn't think it was possible bill because of the electrical system. As with all Rotax motors, when you change them, the entire electrical system has to be changed too.

But hey, I was willing to look it up to see what had to be done to make it work.

Thanks for the help on this one bill......
