Mpem Repair Related issue--Help please

Ok folks, read tons of threads on how to repair mpems with blown diodes so i decided to give it a shot on a 278-000-916 series mpem. Works on a 99 GS and others.
Used a sharp knife to dig into potting tar after removing unit from housing. All went fairly well as far as locating the diode area as per pics provided in previous postings by other people.

Problem: I dug a little wide and seem to have damaged the ajoining diode ( D3 ) next to the one i was going after ( D 11, MR2535L ). You already know my next question. Anyone possibly know what the part number is on this diode is? I'm guessing it's a diode as per the markings on the circuit board.

Oviously I missed the part where the instructions said be careful not to damage ajoining componets next to the main one ( MR 2535L ) My bad.

Hello and thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately while diging into the tar like crap I basicly destroyed the componet in question beyond any chance of reading it out with a meter or seeing any identifying markings so i don't know what it is.
Since you said you have a board open would it be possible for you to identify it for me? It sits to the left of the big diode that blows when jump starting. It's much smaller than the MR2535 diode but sits paralell to it.

Is it glass with red markings... or black, with silver markings?

Unfortunately... diodes are just as diverse as other parts. There are: Signal; Switching; regulating; Clipping; Shotkey; High voltage; Low voltage..... and so on.

Give me a description, and physical size, and maybe we can figure it out.
 
Hi Doc, from what i can see thats left of the part i would say its 1/8 inch in diameter and about 1/4 in long. It was black and looked to have some sort of silver marking which i cannot make out. On the board where it connected it looks to have a polarity marking on it which is of opposite polarity of the MR2535L diode which is also marked on the board.
Thats about all the info i can provide about whats left. It broke into two pieces.

OK... sounds like a basic rectifier diode. (keeps something from back feeding)

Try a 1N4002 diode. It's a generic small signal (rectifier) diode. It should be able to hold the current, and voltage in a SeaDoo. You can probably get it at radio shack for $1.
 
Ok folks, back at it with more help request. I'm having trouble finding a current source for the MR2535L diode. All of the places i've called want a min of at least $ 50.00 to order a couple of these diodes. Any ideas would be helpful at this point.

No one has these part numbers as they are closely guarded by BRP. What you can do is remove it and analyse its value. Its probly a resistor.
It will have give-a-way stripes ect. I have a couple boards opened that might have the one you want.

Hello, got my diode order in today but have a serious doubt about the diode i could not identify. Dr Honda took a shot at which one i may need based on my description on what was left of the one i destroyed. He reccommended a 1N4002. I ordered that one but the size is a little smaller than my old one. Have you had a chance to look for this one?

From what I see on your board it looks like the one I have circled. Is there a part desigination on the board it self under this diode? The big diode i circled also looks to have a different number on it compared to the MR2536L on my board.I can email you the pic as an attachment as I don't see how to attach a pic directly to these post. Please PM me.

Whats your addy? I'll mail the Megatech diode intact onboard. BRP has an exclusive no reproduction or sale on distribution of that part.

Hi Bill, got the circuit board piece you sent and do believe it will provide a key to solving which diode i need to fix my mpem. The diode i identified on the pic. I sent to you turns out to be a little smaller than mine. Also the marking on the circuit board under which the diode is mounted has a D4 on it. Mine has a D3 on it so I guess i'm getting close. Also I desoldered it ( the one you sent ) and found a diode # of 1N4004. Now that i measured it(my old one) i get 3.5mm dia. and compared it to the one you sent, it's close (mine is bigger).
Forgive my ignorance in this matter at this point as i'm going on a physical size match to replace my bad one. Dr Honda guessed at a 1N4002 based on my description which never gave an actual dia. Sooo based on all this maybe it's a 1N4005 or 6.
I was hoping that you could possibly look for a D3 marking on the board you have to further identify the exact diode being used ( also based on the assumption that seadoo never changed parts correlations used for board markings). Maybe if we can find a D3 it too could be identified by the markings (if any) on the diode itself.
I really appriciate what you're doing for me and apoligize again for being soooo Anal in trying to get it right.

My board 278000423 does not have D3 or D4. ref: post 15.

Any member have a DEAD BOARD to help by donate to this member a #278000916) mpem ?
