Is this a cycle or just an inkling of what is to come? I was searching for MPEMs for the 1996 GTX and see the gray boxes for $250 and Up. Mostly... UP !! I've only been into skis for a tad over a year but it seemed to me last year prices were cheaper. :) What would be a decent price for an MPEM... not the whole box but they seem to be selling the whole unit. Thoughts....Insight would be appreciated. :)

Over the last year, I've actually never seen a used OEM MPEM for less than $300. If you find one for $250 I'd jump on it. If had to get one for my 96' GSX or 97' GTX, reasonably from what I've seen, I'd expect about $350 is the going price with the programmed lanyard included.

I know you've been fighting that start issue for while on your 96', sucks you've got to buy a MPEM to resolve it.

I only worked on it one day so far. I was just making sure what I saw in pricing was accurate. Seems really high priced but sobeit. I actually have 3 MPEM gray boxes that will work on the ski so I'm good.

When I bought the ski, they used a jump box to turn it over to show me it wasn't locked up. I didn't know any better at the time. Perhaps that damaged something in there. We shall see shortly.

there are aftermarket mpems available now for many skis. prices are generally less than what you'd pay for a 20+ year used one, although that isn't always true.

also beware of who says that aftermarket ones are trash. many of them have a vested interest in keeping that myth going for themselves or their buddies...i used one on my gti with no issue.

I too have personally seen new aftermarket ones out of the box be bad and cause strange no start conditions.

There have also been many here that bought one with no success and a tested used OEM one cured all the issues.

So are they all bad? I don't know.

Have many of them been bad? Yes.

And as far as the other part, I have no interests in aftermarket or used ones as I don't sell either.

Sent one of my gray boxes to Matt Braley and he fixed up my keys and did some super secret stuff. Ski started right up. Now we will find out if I can keep up with my wife's ski now or maybe a bit better. I machined grooves in my Rave Valves so the skis are even steven..... almost. :)
