Mounted a Garmin GPSmap 78sc to my Seadoo tonight. It is a waterproof unit that also floats. Mounted with a Garmin marine mount that locks it into place. I have my routes to Kelley's island and Put N Bay on Lake Erie already plugged in and ready to go!!! Uses two AA batteries and can last about 20 hours.

Oh that's cool! I'll bring the portable radio and tag along for those destinations anytime, I'd like to hit Kellys Island for some lunch and ride out from there to Pelee and spend a weekend. Bonmotwang you need to get in on this next year, meet us in the middle of Erie?

Sure thing! My boat will have a GPS. The ski will walkie talkie to it.

I've used the Garmin 76, same size, and did a nice job.. I mounted mine on a handle bar, eventually I downgraded to a Garmin ETREX, easier to use, but no channel markers on the screen, part of the decision was based on the fact that my ride buddy put a 4" color Garmin on his glove compartment lid, so I didn't need the 76, and I had never learned to program it anyway :)

my buddy programs in our route, and has them saved, and it has bailed us out on a couple of occasions when riding in new area's.

to answer spx's question, when I sold my 76 (older, B&W version of this model) It sold for like $70 shipped. I'd expect the newer, color versions to be twice that.

In general, I had good luck with the 3m sticky mounts when I started using a gopro and a small gps, never used suction cups myself, when I changed ski's and had aftermarket handlebars with some free space on them, I switched to RAM mounts, which are tough as nails. I personally recommend that anybody that decides to mount a gps or camera to use a mount that is custom for your model, vs a generic mount, that way you won't lose a valuable piece of electronics because of a substandard mount.

Sounds like a plan!!

Nice! I need to get a GPS! What did that one run ya, if you don't mind me asking.

I got it used on C.L. for $145. The 78sc model runs $350-$450 depending where you buy it. There are 3 78 versions. Regular 78, 78s and 78sc. The SC has a larger internal memory (i believe) and also comes preloaded with Garmin G2 coastal maps.. Considering I need inland lakes, the coastal maps will not get much use but for the price I could not pass it up. The best part for me is totally waterproof and floats as well

Found this site that has it new for $250
