I have a 1996 seadoo challenger that i posted help threads to last year. well needless to say carbs are beautiful, rave valves are great impeller and wear ring are in perfect working order!! But the boat never got to speed unless the motor was cold. A long time seadoo mechanic said it was probably a leak between the cylinders and loosing compression when the motor heated up.

So i bit the bullit and purchased a rebuild for my motor. Have to get the old one out to have it shipped.

I have the manual to the boat and have read it as far as to motor removal.

I wanted to ask anyone on here before I tore into that thing this weekend as too any hints or suggestions that have helped them and a rough time estimate to pulling the motor.

Thanks everyone!

it took me about 2 hours the first time i pulled my motor. Now I have done it about 4 times and it only takes me 30-45min to pull it and 1-11/2 to reinstall. Not to bad. Its much easier if you can get the drive shaft out before pulling the engine. Just keep track of your bolts and plug all your oil/fuel lines and its really not so hard. Oh and get a buddy to help lift it out, I tryed doing it myself and hurt my back :(. Im all better now though. I think the engine assembly is about 90lbs or so. hope this helps

If you review the SBT web site there is a general overview and a motor specific one, however as mentioned plug each of the liquid lines oil/gas, removing the pump/driveshaft will get you more wiggle room but keep an eye out for the shims and keep them marked so they can go back exactly where they came out under the motor mountings and taking some pictures as you go along is good fodder for your kids so they can learn and see, the green cleaner will make the engine bay look nice again when you go back together. There is a lot of info here about rotary valve timing when you get the rebuilt block back in your hands - read as much as you want to save paying someone to do this.
