Motor Surging

For me I found it was just how my 155 was. As luck would have it there was a guy at the boat ramp last summer who had an early 155. I asked him about the surging & he said his didn't do that. He started it for me against his trailer & sure enough, it ran jus like mine. He said he never paid much attention to it. :) So, I think its pretty common, at least in the early machines. It really wouldn't have bothered me either except it would cause the typical "sea-coo rattle" on otherwise calm water. Hated that.
 
Hmm, well I have this engine in a boat, and when I'm going just off idle, say 3200 rpm, the surge is +/- 1-200rpm. It's enough to actually pull the boat fwd and give you a brief feeling of acceleration. It's noticeable. Annoys the crap out of me. You can even see the tach needle dance a little. No reason why a modern engine should not be able to maintain a solid RPM figure. I'm not giving up yet.
