This is prob been posted over and over but. I have a 96 Challenger with the 787 motor. I new going into this boat it was not the most powerful seadoo out there and expected it. It was a good price and for me and my wife a good fit. The only problem I have with the boat is I would like to have more low end. We use it to wakeboard. I have started looking for parts but i still want it to be daily used and not hurt the life of the engine. This weekend we took the boat out with my parents and i finally got up on my wakeskate but i had to move everybody to the front of the boat so it would plane. I this normal for this boat?

You probably need to go through the pump and replace the wear ring, verify there you have the neoprene seal to seal teh pump to the ride plate and seal up any gaps where the ride plate meets the hull in by the pump shoe. As far as getting more bottom end you might want to look into changing your impeller for a different pitch, personally you might want to call someone like Impros to get their input on selecting the right pitch for what you want to do. But with a single 787 you're gonna have to make sure you are getting zero cavitation to get up on plane while trying to pull a wake board.

Got any vids of the wakeskate behind the Challenger? Post links if you do.

what he said^^^

also thats asking a lot out of that boat with a single engine. Dan`s advice is sound, bc if you go to low a number on the pitch, you`ll be screaming that prop and still going nowhere...

hopefully you can get Dave @ IMPROS on the phone!

the health of the engine is imperative if you are going to load it more, have you done a compression check?

Hey guys thanks for the advice. Last winter the wear ring, seals, and pump was gone thru and the impeller was replace with a new solas(factory pitch). The motor was also replaced and has about 10hours on it. Other than the impeller I guess what I'm asking is what performance parts could i add or will that kill the motor life. (Pipe, new heads, re jetting the carb, flame arresters, ect.) Again I know its not really good boat to do what we do but just curious. Also it has two waterboxs would removing one get that torque. I don't really want to make it louder though.

Same problems, could try Tuning the RAVE valves for the load and getting a wake tower for better angle then the center post. I personally like the single because its ½ the trouble. You just got to hump it up a little, at your own risk and pocket book.
There are good reads for modifying 787…. Under 97 / 98 SEA DOO racing (racing/1998/1998-seadoo-racing-book.PDF) there is lots of sites to give you info and good mods that don’t screw the reliability.

Just Look at what can be done.
1995 Seadoo Speedster Custom Built 1 of a kind Race boat. This is the only boat you will find in this world with the amount of customization done. A lot of money went into this. Do your research. You won’t find one.
This boat was built by Green Machines in Hialeah along with Help from Moto Tech.
List of work done

2 Seadoo 951cc motors modified to max but not to affect reliability
Milled and Speced heads for Compression Bump
Ported engine Block Housings
Ported intake ports
Jetted Twin Mikuni Carbs w/ Annular accelerator Squirters
No choke or primers needed
Colder NGK plugs for high compression
Runs on 93 pump gas
Twin Electric High Flow fuel pumps for no fuel starvation on hard turns or manuavers
Opened up Exhaust exits thru haul
Reeds adjusted and cleaned
Individual MPEG ECUs
Tuned for additional fuel and engine mods
Custom Fabricated Engine Mount Rails made of stainless steel
Uses stock engine mounts
Engines Leveled for proper driveshaft alignment
Custom Hardened Driveshafts
New Dual Jet Pumps from a 2002RXDI
Dual Trim Nozzle system from seadoo RXDI jetski with Indicator gauge
Both Jetpumps have stainless steel liner wear rings (not cheap plastic or rubber)
Dual Slolas Turbine Props
Custom Fabricated Rear 23"aluminum ride plate to keep boat from flipping on hole shot acceleration(makes boat safe)

The amount of money and work put in to this boat is outrageous. WARNING, THIS BOAT IS NOT A TOY. NOT FOR BEGINNERS.
From Factory this boat brings twin rotax 650cc engines 90hp each and goes a max of 45mph on smooth water and just a driver.

This boat now does 82mph GPS without the rideplate bolted to back. With full tank and 3 passengers, gear, and plate bolted it does 76mph as it is now. I had this boat built because the 95 speedster is the only model year with a single water suction inlet for both jet props which make it faster than 96-up dual inlets. I wanted a boat that could pull skiers up within 3 seconds and be able to pull anything. The thing that makes it fun as hell is that its a perfect sleeper. Every person with a new modern jet boat or jetski that see this thing assume old 90's 2 stroke that tops out at 40-45mph.
I love the look on peoples faces when I pull up next to their turbo jetski and blow their as... away. They all stay surprised and tell me that things a beast. No joke. This boat is built to perform and is reliable. I take it out almost every weekend and travel far with it. Usually Eliot Key after i get bored of key biscayne. Its been 20 miles out with no problem. Starts everytime with both programmed keys to start each engine. Turns on a dime. Does awesome submarine moves, jumps, and doughnuts. Engines are very loud on full throttle. Each engine is putting out 225hp turning at 8,000rpms. The boat just bites out of water on acceleration. It freaks the cr_p out of my wife. Its light weight so thats why it can do what it does.
All motor fabrication swap is like factory secured and function. It all looks like it came from the factory like that. NO SHORT CUTS.

Just passing this along, its not mine but I wished it was. I'm researching the changes to increase my 53mph GPS boat along. Good luck

A place diverter would top that thing off! :)

Thanks Dan!

man if money were no object, I`d be dumping two 4 strokes in the 1800...
2 1500cc 4-Tecs, electronics and the works... :lols:

Toys will be Toys! I know I'll never get what I put into mine but I love to play hard.
Wow! 225hp 951cc what my boat would do with that hooked up;
you know there not making any more so why not.
I'll be looking it to it or at least some of it.

If I absolutely had to, and 2 alike ski`s fell in my lap for cheap, then I`d be interested in the challenges of the swap. 2 stroke engines and parts will probably still be around for a few years yet, sooo I`ll run her as is...
there is only so much coin you could toss at a 15 year old boat before you jones for a new one...

The more boats and PWC people think are junk the cheaper I can build a beast (2 or 4 stroke) to play, I got this boat cheap and with little work, a few parts and some adjustments, have gotten it to go faster than I thought but still not fast enough. (currently looking at a 155mm pump and some engine mods to get 60-65mph GPS or more low end for easier wakeboarding this off season. If I get that, I'll give it to my kids and get a new toy to build. I used to build cars, Jet boats are cheaper. Were all on a clock.

I'm waiting to pick up two HO Sparks on the cheap to swap in my Speedster. Other than the electronics and the engine mounts, I don't envision it to be all that much. Challenges I see are the neutral safety and rev limiter, but other than that, not much.

How would you go about installing the larger pump, modify the intake? I'm pretty sure it could be bolted on there but seems like the intake needs to be larger. I guess the RXDI has 155mm pumps, not sure how they worked that out with the single intake.

First research, if it can be done and still work with in the hulls single intake it is after all just 16MM bigger.
I'm not afraid of modification to the body\hull, done them all my life. Fiberglass is no stranger to me.
Biggest question and one I have yet to ask all the groups I belong to Is, what would the benefit be and how far do I have to go to (motor) to see real performance gains? I also have a line on a 2007 Wake Edition 155hp for 4-5,000 complete. Just need a little love or a whole new body. (My boat!!!)

I look at my boat as a PWC, you just don't seat vertical you seat horizontal in it. I’ve been air born in it and done some submarining (not on purpose) and love to watch my passengers faces (wife/kids).
O... yea if all this works out I’m going to wrap it up (Lucky 7 Designs) in something really cool with a H2O Tower and rock a sweet stereo/amp from Kenwood.
It’s an Exciting winter coming and I think I just took it out for the last time for the season. -Terry
