Low 12v help!!

Hey guys! I have a 2006 RXP and I need some help!

one day I rode the ski and it didn’t like to idle, and it came up with a 12v low but would go away. So automatically I thought it was the map sensor, turned out not to be that. I’ve heard people say it could be your battery but the battery is new, or stater, or even the voltage regulator. The ski would run fine and idle for about the first 5 Minutes and then the problems would come. Idles rough, surges RPM, and even shuts off sometimes. But if I give it throttle, it seems like there’s nothing wrong with it.

I can’t find any video on how to pull a fault code then Low 12v. Any help will be appreciated! Thank you in advance![/QUOTE]

What is your voltage with the ski off, at idle and reving at 4,000 rpm?

Just because the battery is new doesn't mean its good.

Why would you think the manifold absolute pressure sensor would cause a 12V low fault? In all cases I read on this forum, the rectifier/regulator was the cause when running DC voltage is below specification.

I was getting a 12V Low Voltage and did 2 things.

1. Got a new battery.
2. Got a battery tender junior.

Both solved this issue. Never got the 12V Low Voltage again.

Not sure if this was the correct approach but it solved the problem.

Now you just need to confirm your charging system is working, so you don't kill the new battery.

Hey guys sorry for the late reply, I was at work. So the battery with the ski off is at 12.V and steady. The ski dose not want to idle at all so I can’t get the reading of it when it’s idling, and still doesn’t want to run while revving, so i got a reading around 13v while revving it 4000-5000 rpm. It doesn’t to hold a rev either.

The reason why I replaced the MAP sensor is of the roughing idling at first .

Your battery should be at 12.6 volts; if you're above 13 when the engine is running your charging system is working properly. Get that battery load tested and tell us how many CCA it can produce.

Now on to the rough idle. That can be caused by many things, but we can rule things out one at a time.

I'd start with your ignition and fuel system. Follow the procedures in the shop manual for checking the injectors and ignition coils. If those check good; check your fuel pressure and report back. Your ski is supercharged so fuel pump pressure should be around 58 PSI.

Get a Candoo. It has a neat feature that will let you can activate system components, injectors, ignition coils, fuel pump etc. to see if they are functioning properly. That will help you isolate the cause of the malfunction.

Sounds good I’ll get the battery load tested, and if it comes back bad I’ll just buy a new one while I’m there.

So the rough idle I think has to do something with the 12v low, when I first start the ski when it hasn’t been ran in a couple of days everything fine for the first couple mins, once that 12 V low starts flashing is when my idle becomes rough and the ski wanting to die on me. Any thoughts?

No sir, that wasn’t me. That was “Astro7982”. I’m still having the 12v low problem and rough idling at the same time.

Check the "charge" fuse.....mine was very corroded....cleaned it and replaced it....now charging good....

Hey guys just a little update, the battery came out good. The CCA was 450. I replaced all the fuses as well and cleaned the connectors. And it’s still acting up. Any other ideas?

When you say "all" does the mean the charging system fuse? If so, check your voltage at the battery one more time with the ski running at 3,500 RPM. Let us know the result.
