Losing power after 10min

I have a 97 GTX that was used very infrequently for a number of years. It runs beautifuly on the water for about 10 min. After that it does not die but has no power past half throttle. We were able to idle back to the dock but it would not rev past 4k rpms. When ever I gave it throttle past half way it bogged down and would only go idle speed. Any thoughts other than carbs? Im in the process of getting those off to clean.

If it can sit, and it runs well again... it's probably not (totaly) the carbs. It sounds like an overheating problem to me. Dose your beeper work when you hook up the lanyard?

It could also be a hole in one of the exhaust leaking in the hull. Lift the seat and see what happens if the carb rebuild doesnt do it.

It does apear that the gasket around one of the rave valves is leaking. There is a black film on the engins just below the housing. could this cause overheating and loss of power?

Take the rave cap off you'll prob find the bellow has popped off its mount.

Prob not the issue though...it would not rev up at all...not just after 10min.

rave on

You were right about the rave valve. The rubber below and spring that holds it on had slipped off the piston exhaust. Planning to replace grey (supposedly bad) fuel lines and clean the carb. Any other idea while Im in there?

It sure wouldnt be a bad idea to buy genuine carb kits and needle and seats if your budget can handle it...they are about $150 shipped all together.

Take the fuel selector out and clean it good, along with the fuel/water seperator. Make sure the oring is good on the seperator; if its not perfect toss it and get a new oring.

Also I recommend changing out the little oil lines and the oil filter while you have the carbs off.

I'm sure the Rave valves need to be cleaned too.

Lastly...change the pump oil. Make sure to use a new OEM oring on the cone when you put it back together.

I do this on any machine I buy to resell.

Update: all fuel lines have been replaced, new fuel filter and the carbs have been rebuilt. However now I have a new problem. No fuel is getting to the carbs. Not ever getting to the fuel selector. I replaced all the lines one by one to avoid any chance of mix up. checked the fuel selector valve and all looks good. none of the lines to the selector smelled of gas so it seems like it may be a problem with the pump which was working fine before this whole endevor started. If i pour fuel directly into the carbs it will run for a few seconds but of coruse die one all that fuel is sepnt. I did notice one of the check valves on the hull does not seem to open under pressure (applied by motuh not sure if thats enough pressure or not). Also there is another valve on the hull right next to the check valve, its kinda red/orange and has a hose that runs to the back of the ski but is not connected to anything. Any thought are greatly appreciated

Check the oring in the fuel/water seperator. I would also check the connections at the pickup and make sure a mistake wasnt made.

And...dont be as dumb as I am and forget to hook up the pulse line!! LOL

The check valve will be too much to test by mouth.

When the system is correct it has NO problem filling itself. I have heard people put a bag over the carbs to create heavy vaccum...I usually just use heavily mixed gas down the carb. That is b/c I always change the oil injection lines so I need 30 sec to refill the lines (holding the pump wide open)

by fuel/water seperator is that the housing the fuel filter is in? And any thoughts on where that other line coming from the hull next to the out check valve should run to? I will go and check the lines just to make sure everthing is right.
