I just finished carb overhaul and noticed that one of my motors is loose. I can actually move it quite a bit by hand. I felt around under the cradle to see how the motor is attached, but it's difficult to tell for sure by hand. I'm sure the cradle is tight to the hull, the rubber bushings are all there, so I imagine a few nuts backed off. Does the motor have studs that go thru the cradle, then lock nuts to pull it tight to the cradle? If so, how many? 4 per motor?

Thanks in advance for your help.

hey tex...yeah, theres 4-mounts per engine. Each mount has a "treaded" insert, inside the "rubber" mount, which, the "rubber" mount is attached to a plate, that the plate is mounted to the floor of boat/ski.

If you can grab the motor and pull, and it lifts up in any/all corners, the nyou have a mount or 2 "broke" (rubber seperating from the plate)...

Thanks for the fast reply! So, I need to feel around for the studs and tighten/replace the nuts? I'm guessing that's it, but it's good to double check.

tighten the bolts(4 on each motor) that hold the cradle down to the mounts, then pull up, from pipe, and see if/where the motor is lifting up at, and replace that/those mounts...

Yes, there are 4 studs in the bottom of the engine that bolt to the bed plate. You will have to pull the engine to fix it. Remember to use thread locker on the studs and re-align the engine when you re-install it.

I think Your talking about engine to cradle studs.

There are four studs on the bottom of the engine that go through the Motor
Plate. Then the Plate is bolted to rubber biscuits (vibration dampeners) which
bolt to the Hull.

That's what I thought. I'll take a peek under the motor to see if they're all there. I felt one stud without a nut on it at the rear of the motor, the stud next to it had the nut on it. Some moron probably didn't use a lock nut and it vibrated loose. Hopefully I can reach it without pulling the motor.

It's an occasional problem on those engines. I've seen it several times on engines that were untouched from the factory. You're better off to pull the engine & fix it properly with red thread locker.

loose motor update

Just to update... Found that the studs that hold the motor to the cradle were either missing or loose, hence the loose motor. Per the advice of you guys, I pulled the motor and am in process of replacing the missing harware (using locktite) then re installing and aligning. I'll keep you posted on progress. Thanks for the great advice!
