I am in the market for a new toy for the summer. I just have a few questions I thought I would come on here and see if you have any input. I have been searching but I don't want to spend over $20K. I came up with these so far:

2005 Challenger 180 for $17,900
2007 150 Challenger for $16,900 (supercharged)
2005 Sportster 4tec for $15,900 (with tower and rack and Supercharged)
2004 Sportster 4stroke for $12,900 (with tower and 155hp)
2006 Sportster 4ec for $12,000 (no tower and 155hp)
1998 Speedster for $9000 (twin 110hp motors)

These are all Canadian pricing.

Which one do you think I should go with? Which one sounds like the best deal, and is there any known problems with them?
Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys and gals!!

Speedster

I just like Speed. and with 220 hp. I'll bet its quick also.
With the Money You save ... Dress it Up!
Good luck and be Safe.

It really depend on what you are going to do with. For all around, I'd go with the Challenger 180.

Yeah you have such a variety. It really depends on what your needs are and what you wanna do. With 20 thousand to spend, in the states you could have a lot to choose from. For 20 grand to spend myself, I would be looking for a 20 foot speedster.

98 speedster

Hands down...you'll outgrow the small 14.5/15ft boats...But if you have more than 4-people in your family, then you got no choice but to go with the bigger boats, but i'd slap down my dough on the 98 Speedster.

Wow Seadooya you really know your stuff!

Im Glad you worked on my boat, you sure have a passion for boats, just like I have passion for pc's! lol..

So, you said, 9,000 on the 98 speedster, and the other $11,000 for some ski's? lol

Take the 98 Speedster,
add a tower of your choice.
still have some $ in the bank...
The Fun factor will be the same.

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking that the little 14-15ft sportster would be a bit to small also.

Basically I am just looking for a boat to go tubing, cruising, and some camping trips. I was considering the 98 speedster for awhile now, but does anyone know what to look for before I purchase this boat? how many hours is normal for a boat that old? things such as that! I hear a bunch of mixed reviews on the motors that it uses so not really sure.

Thanks again.

Hours could vary quite a bit. I bought mine last year with 85 hours on it. If someone used it a lot, it could easily have 300 or 400 hours on it. Only way to tell is to have it hooked up at a dealer. If it had that many hours though, I would think the engines would have been rebuilt or they will show their age during a compression check. Read up on here. The cylinders should show 150 or so and be within 10 to 15 lbs of each other.

As far as the mixed reviews of the 787, I don't know where you would hear that. The 787 is probably the most reliable engine BRP has made. They can last a long time. Very easy to maintain. Keep your oil injection working properly and they will live a long happy life. If you blow one up they are very reasonable to replace. A rebuilt replacement with a warranty runs $1200.

As I have said to many other, the 98 speedster is a very reliable well rounded boat. You can't go wrong if you find a good deal on one in good shape. Good Luck!!!

Well I called today about the 98 speedster and the guy still has it in storage. he said he is going to be taking it out this weekend hopefully. Meanwhile I have been looking on auto trader.ca and found a 2000- 20ft challenger 2000 for $13,900 that I really like. Very hard decision for me, I wanna try and make the right choice. lol
