I purchashed my seadoo boat in the fall and need some info. I have not towed it yet but I need to know if it is a 1 7/8'' ball or 2'' . Second question is I just bought a GMC 1500 which will be towing it. What is the proper drop for the hitch and ball for towing. My old truck was a 1 ton and had 5 1/4 drop but it was much higher on the back end. Any info would be appreciated.

Both of those could vary. It depends on the trailer and the truck. But, my 98 is on a Shorelander trailer and the coupler requires a 2" ball. I think that is what most the Sea Doo trailers need.

The drop of the hitch will depend on how high the truck sits. I have a 2005 Chevy Avalanche and it uses a 2" drop.

The Avalanche should be very similar to my 1500 so the 2'' drop may be the ticket. It is a seadoo trailer but I have both size hitch balls so I can switch them when needed. Thanks for the info.

On the tongue of the trailer it should say what ball it takes and how much weight it can hold.. I've towed skis and they can be 2 or 1 7/8 and Ive towed boats and they are also can be 2 or 1 7/8 so you have to look and see. The drop all depends on the load of tongue weight and the truck each truck is different..

The proper way to see how much drop you need is to back up to the trailer and determine the amount of drop needed by using the trailer jack to maintain a level position on the trailer to the ground. Then see how much lower from the receiver is the trailer.

The issue is I have not towed this boat and I have to travel quite a distance so once I go in the spring to retrieve it I have to be prepared. I have both size balls but may need to buy a couple of receivers and do it at that time to figure out whats best. Thanks for your help guys.
