Hello, just doing normal maintenance. I replaced the impeller cover oil and put back on the cover using loctite on the screws and on the oil fill plug. I did NOT use any loctite sealer on the cover itself. Is it necessary to use the sealer on the cover? If so, where do I put the sealer? Also, where can I buy the sealer?

thanks:blush:

I believe the manual calls for Locktite 518 anaerobic sealant, it goes on the cone around the "O" ring. You can get it at any auto parts store. I personally now use it, I didn't for years, so I guess it's optional. The manual also calls for a pressure test, at 10psi for 10 minutes.

You should use a little sealant... but if the O-ring was in good shape, (new) it will seal on it's own.

I don't use the special sealant. I just wipe a little black RTV on it.

Tony,

I just wanted to get your opinion. What do you think about Griz's idea of removing the three screws on the cone, remove the fill plug and turning the cone 180 degrees to drain the oil and then turning it back to it's normal position to refill? That way you never remove the cone.

I don't diss-like it... but the o-ring isn't very deep into the housing... and if you have a spring pusher... it will just pop the cone off anyway.

Personally... If you are that deep into it... pop the cone off so you can see if there are any issues. Also... the O-ring will get hard, and it may need changed. SO... just twisting it, and putting it back... and you may find that it didn't seal, and half way though the season, you will have a seized pump.

I'm not going to say he's wrong (since he is at least changing the oil) but it's not the way I would do it.
