I have a 2005 Sortster. The last time I was out, we ran it for a long time. Shut it off and swam around for a bit. When trying to restart, it wouldn't. We towed it back and it has sat since. When looking over it, the oil is well under where I thought it was. Would this keep the engine from starting. I have never had an issue with it starting before. And before I take it in I thought I would ask around. THANKS for anything you can add

No, the MPEM won't keep the engine from starting in a low oil condition. It will simply give you a warning light.

IF... you ran it out of oil, and roasted the engine... that would be an entirely different problem.

lack of Oil

Same thing happened to me turned out it was the battery. It ran great all day then took the kids out for a swim and it was dead with no warning.I replaced it with a new one and it worked fine.
Cheers
