Hello, all I just bought a (new to me) 97 Speedster and the family and I are loving it...

The bimini top is down in the second pic because the previous owner ripped the straps during our "test Drive". I remanufactured them using the broken strap fittings, some 12lb test fishing line, some cheap 12ft tow straps from harbor freight, and a needle to sew them up.

My seats were faded and ripped on the bottom row of seats so we are currently reupholstering them. I am also coming up with a much simpler way to mount these back in the boat. I'm thinking permanent mounting pegs on the bottom of the seats with simple cinch pins holding them in the boat. (A whole lot easier than the nut/bolt routine). I'll try to get pics as soon as I start (I'll make a post), but my comp currently says everything I download is a virus (it's local to me, I'm not contagious ). I'll catch y'all on the flipside...

be careful rigging up a pin system for the seats. Unless you tow the boat covered, you might lose a seat. Seats are very hard to find if you lose one and very expensive.

Welcome aboard...

Excellent point about the seats.. MANY have lost them going down the road...

how expensive are we talking?? I also just purchased a 97 speedster that, lucky for me, was always stored indoors and the seats are in great condition. There is one tiny hole on the back of the rear-facing seat midship that i might replace. how difficult is the replacement and at what cost?

thanks

A neat trick when there is just a hole is to add a wide stripe of contrasting color. Any canvas shop can so this. Do the other seat to match. It's like getting a facelift.

I'd just do as suggested its relatively inexpensive if you do the recovering yourself... It'll cost a bit more to get a shop to fix them for you. Replacing a seat can cost you around 300-400 if you can find them.

I'm having an issue with my tachometers, both have had the faceplate crack off. The PO rtv'ed one back on and I lost the other while we were at the lake today. These are discontinued... If anyone has any extras I'd love to pick them up...! I pulled the broken one out of the boat today and plastic welded the faceplate back on using zip ties as the filler... I hope it lasts. If it doesn't I'm thinking epoxy...
