Jet pump support removal question

I have never done this, I have a shop manual and I have some questions on the procedure. A Repair shop charged me to do this and they did not get it right so I want to do it myself.

do I have to remove the driveshaft for this procedure? If not how do I support it from not tilting? I also see that the shop Manual also says to use a heat gun to loosen the seal. I am assuming I would have to use the heat gun to loosen up the seal on the ride plate too? Also do I have to align the Pump support or just use the existing settings? Anybody have any other tips on doing this?

You don't have to remove the driveshaft. It will only slightly sag and won't get in your way.

You have to remove the ride plate. Follow the manual and use a heat gun in the adhesive areas. A bottle jack with a 2x4 on the top with just a little bit of pressure and it will separate easily.

You do have to use a good heat gun on the pump shoe and get it pretty hot which will let it pull off pretty easily. If you don't have enough heat, it can pull chunks of the gel coat off.

To reassemble, it will self align but make sure to get everything clean using alcohol and use the proper adhesive in the proper areas per the manual.

You helped me before and I really appreciate it. It has been a nightmare with this one repair shop. I brought it to him last august 2020 for a drive shaft and jet pump replacement and there is still problems. He says he is too busy to fix it and I have not enjoyed my ski all summer.

I was going to go to harbor freight to buy the heat gun and bottle jack. What should I look for in a heat gun?

When pulling off the pump support, I just use my hands or is other tools needed?

How many tubes of loctite 5900 should I order for this job? For ride plate and jet support.

How long should i let the glue dry?

once again!!! THANKS!!!!! for your help.

Cheap heat gun should work fine, just needs to get hot.
A small thin pry bar works well to put a little pry pressure on the shoe. It will come right off when hot.
I usually let the sealant sit a day before testing. It's all bolted together so not going anywhere but you will want to make nice smooth joints between the parts on the bottom.

Thank you for all your help!
Today I removed the jet pump and ride plate!!! First time

The sealant is really hard to remove. Is there an easier way to remove this? I am using the heat gun and a putty knife.

Also, I read that I have to use alcohol and clean this plate before I reuse it. Is it just rubbing alcohol? Can i use mineral spirits?

Some people say that I have to purchase a new jet pump support. I can not reuse the old one? ( the reason I am replacing the jet pump is that the mechanic said I needed one due to a crack. He put in a brand new one....and now the ski is leaking. He did not do a good job. He pissed me off. He said he is too busy to fix it and I have to wait until he slows down.

I also noticed there are different kinds of loctite 5900.

Click on the links below. Let me know which is the right one: And how many tubes do i need?

5900. 142490

Loctite 5900. 20166

Just curious,,,maybe missed something,,,why are you removing the ride plate/shoe?
the mechanic that was repacing my driveshaft said the jet pump support was cracked. he replaced this and now it is leaking. He said he can not fix this until he slows down. this is BS...he should have fixed this asap since he did not do it right the first time.

They are the same 5900, just old and new packaging. You will only use about a half a tube.

Sharp razor blade works well without heat. 91% isopropyl alcohol or acetone works well. Mineral spirits leaves kind of a film behind.

Sometimes the shoe gets beat up taking it out so that's why they recommend replacing. If it still looks good and no warping and you clean it up like new it would be fine to reuse.

Thanks again for your help. Can you tell me if the below images look like I need to scrape off more of the Seal? Also, there were these 2 metal rings. Are these spacers? One looks beat up. Can I still use these?

I destroyed the support bracket while taking it off. I ordered a new one. Once I put this support bracket on, is there a way to test if it's leaking water without bringing it to the lake and before putting it on the ride plate?

Someone said to fill the hull up with some water... Thoughts?

Last time I had to reseal a leaking shoe, I used a wire brush/wheel on the end of a drill or die grinder,,worked great.

Those are spacers that adjust the angle of the pump so yes they are needed. I would get it clean down to the gel coat unless you feel like doing it again. You can use a soft wire wheel in a drill to remove what's left.
