Jet Pump Grease

Hi
I am looking for some guidance.

I rebuilt my jet pump on my '95 GTS and was advised to use jet pump grease and not oil.

I am looking to launch my Gts this weekend. Will using the grease instead of the oil cause my GTS pump to fail? Should I mix oil in with the grease as a hack save if using the grease is an issue?
 
You were given the wrong information.

You can't use grease in your pump. You have to run oil. Either the seadoo oil, Klotz Jet Pump oil or some use the Mobil 1 gear oil.
 
Blast...do you think it is safe to use for one weekend. It would probably get 3 hours use over the course of this upcoming weekend
 
No, the grease will not lube the roller or thrust bearings.

This is not a pump with ball bearings like the Kawasaki and Yamaha use.
 
I say no as well but curious, how full did you stuff the cavity, completely?

Another reason to select oil is it can be drained to remove most of the trapped water contamination, grease won't allow this. Grease will be too heavy for the needle bearing at high speed, IMO.
 
Where are you located? I have a spare bottle of klotz if you're in Niagara/GTA and want to knock out a refill before the weekend.

Who told you to use grease in the jet pump and skip the oil? I hope you don't take any more advise from this person...

Aloha
Packed the bearings, nose cone and Lower part of the jet pump cavity.

Do you think I could get away with adding oil to the rest of the space for the weekend and clean it all up next week? It would probably be used for 3 hours or less....

I would"t a pump rebuild could be expensive.

Why not just take it apart and clean the grease out. It shouldn't take more than an hour and there are no parts to replace.
 
That's my plan as of now. Take off the pump, clean it out and reattach. I fortunately enjoy the mechanical work....

It's just a bummer as I have 3 seadoos and only one is available. I buy and re-build them for my family to all enjoy including my old man who is almost 80!

Either way I'm on the water this weekend on the 96' spx...just solo missions.

I just wanted to thank everyone for the help and guidance.

I did take the grease out and put in jet pump gear oil and was able to ride with my family all weekend! Was pretty quick.

Lots of great photos of future seadoo enthusiasts as my 2 year old daughter was driving with me and liked going fast LOL
