Jet Pump Clogging

Am I the only one who seems to get the pump clogged up with seaweed?
I have a 1997 Challenger with the weedless system.
What is the proper procedure to get the weeds out while on the water? The manual says that the boat must be stopped and the engine off to open the gate. That did not get all of the weeds out. I would seem to think that if the boat was moving, the weeds may come out easier.

What have you guys done when you ran into this problem?

Also, if I have to play with the throttle once in a whole to go to the higher RPMs, does this mean my carberator needs to be cleaned/rebuilt?

The weedless system assumes that the grate is holding all the weeds. SO... turning off the engine will help it drop out.

BUT... it sounds like you are sucking it into the pump, and it's causing issues. The only thing I can recommend is to install a Skat-Trak "Swirl" impeller. It will help with the "out of the hole" performance... but more importantly, the leading edge of that impeller is curved, and it will let the seaweed slide to the edge, be chopped up, and passed through the pump.

I boat out of Port Colborne on lake Erie and the launch is in a protected breakwall bay and by this time of the year the weeds are pretty thick
what i do is go slow out the marina then put it in neutral and pull the grate then give it gas in forward and reverse and that clears out the weeds and off i go
