Is my air intake silencer plug missing?

I've been trying to diagnose this whistling sound I started hearing on acceleration when the throttle is pressed. Was told to check airbox to make sure it was on correctly. Low and behold I'm pretty sure it's missing the silencer plug. Would that be causing the whistling noise? Would that also cause some cavitation?

Definitely not cavitation, I have one missing on mine too and no whistle so I don't think that's the problem. The whistle is probably caused by your cavitation somewhere

So it is definitely missing correct? I thought maybe since air was shooting through that hole that it would be causing the whistling I'm hearing only during acceleration when the throttle is pressed. Maybe it's supplying too much air to the carbs?

That allows you to spray fogging oil into the carbs when removed. So you can properly store your ski between rides if you don't get out that often.

That's it? I knew you could pull up on it to spray fogging oil but I thought for sure the plug would have another purpose. Do you even need it then?

Dan beat me to the answer....but to answer your 2nd Q, not really, I lost my plug so I just put a piece of duct tape over the hole to keep any dust/water spray out when cleaning it.

Might be your bearings.

(it's all ball bearings these days)

But seriously.... I heard a whistle that I couldn't pin down and it turns out I hadn't zerked.
