on my 1999 gs, it has smashed a piston, on ispection it did not look like there was much oil on the crank compared to the other cylinder, just wondered if pre mixing would be a good idea to be on the safe side once it has been rebuilt, if so what ratio would you recommend ?

if it is oil injected now you have to block off the oil feed and then you can run pre-mix Im in the process of doing this to a 2000 XP due to the oil line coming off and well you know what happened

yes....

Yes, you can pre-mix the 717 cc Rotax engine with a ratio of 40 or 50:1. You must leave the oil tank installed and supplied with oil to lubricate the rotary chamber. Because you won't consume the oil, you only need to fill the tank 1/4 full.
The oil block off kit can be purchased for about $15 bucks on the web. It isn't necessary to purchase it though. You can take the two allen head screws out, remove the pump, pull out the small teflon shaft that drives the pump, then re-install it. The system will still be in place, just in-operable. Don't throw out the shaft, you may want to re-install again at some point. Make sure you do pre-mix first and have that in the engine before disconnecting the pump. You don't want to starve the engine for oil.
Good luck........let us know how you make out or if there are any more questions...........
