Is it OK to use my throttle with the gear selector slightly resisting?

If I put it in F, the throttle will come back to idle immediately if I let go of it.

But I have found that if I put it in gear, and give it any gas, then pull back just a touch on the gear selector, it will sorta add friction to the throttle, then I can let it go and it will stay at the same speed, kinda like cruise control.

Is this OK for it, or am I slowly destroying the thing?

Or is it supposed to be like this and pushing the selector all the way forward is somehow overdoing it and letting it fall back freely?

Scoop...need to remove the lever assy, and check-ur out, maybe tighten/loosen some of those "restrain" screws.

OK, I reread my post 4 times and cannot figure out what I did wrong. Why do you think I was drinking and typing?

I know Karl had some problems with this selector switch before he sold it to me. This may be leftover trouble from that.

Should it be free falling, or should there be slight resistance holding it at speed?

I don't know what "normal" is for this boat, but I know every other boat I have been in holds a speed when you put the throttle on.

Mine holds the throttle position once I am in forward. I did tighten the tensioner bolts just a hair tho.
