After riding the skis all day yesterday I got underneath of them to make sure the intake grate was all cleared out since there was a bunch of sea weed in the water. Come to find out, one of the bars on the grate has snapped off from the end. I can push the par back up into place where its snug. Do I need to go ahead and just buy a new intake grate or can I super glue the end or the bar back in place?

Yeah it is Lou. I'm on my phone so I can't see what ski you got but for the older 2 strokes Worx maxiloaders are pretty much the best you can get.

Beamans10 - Welcome.

USA is a large place, it would help if you could put your city or at least your state and the type of ski/boat you have into your profile.

Thanks.

I would replace it before the bar snaps off and goes through the pump trashing the impeller and wear ring. I wouldn't ride it again till its fixed.

I was looking on pwcmuscle.com and saw a performance intake for a GTI but only for the 2006-2007 models.. Are they that different to where they won't fit on the 08 model?

check out alantic jet sports or bay area powersports. they stock r&d, worx and riva. if i where you i'd research r&d and worx. see which one works best for your riding style.

O M G! You're shtting me.

Push it back and call it good?...super glue?....dude....seriously.

welded?...c'mon

Get a new one...hell...I'll sell you my old oem grate for $50....if it'd work for you.

Aside...if you're thinkin on getting a top loader or performance grate to replace your broken one...you may increase your hook up in the chop...but you will deffinately lose top speed without more ponies to compensate for the extra drag.

Aside part 2. Do you know how lucky you are? I've heard of more than one grate break at speed...the ski coming to an abrupt stop as a result of the instantanious "brake" of the grate hanging down...causing the driver to launch without warning over the handle bars.

Sorry to sound like such a dumbass.. Just new to all this and wanted to make sure I didn't mess anything up anymore than it is. I didn't know if epoxy would work or what, didn't really mean super glue. But the whole grate didn't break. Just on of the bars on the grate just craked at the end where it was connected. Barely moves but you can definetly see that it is cracked..

Red2blue that was a little harsh dude.

Op it's just best to replace it. Is the the oem-riva grate?

I didn't mean to be harsh...more...amused chiding. I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone.

But seriously...the amount of stress the grate takes is nothing to play with.

I swapped my oem grate for a Riva long ago...then the R&D "girdle" came out to help protect against the bolts from pulling through the hull ect. Because my grate is installed properly and has never shown the slightest inclination of a bolt loosening I am terrified of messing with it. Even if it was in an effort to bolster it's attached strength.

It's all good. I'm just another noob trying to figure this crap out. The only problem I keep running into is that I can only find the performance grates for the 06-07 GTI's and nothing for an 08.. But who knows.
