All my parts arrived today to start my stereo installation. As i was going over everything I realized that I forgot all about an antenna. I was wondering what you guys have used and where you mounted it.

Trying to get radio on the boat even with an antenna is useless. I tried before and didnt have any luck. I pretty much stick to using my ipod. I tried an antenna for a bit but it didnt help much.

Ok thanks maybe I won't spend the money on one then. I see that you are in northern new york, and we have the same boat. Do you ever hit any of the finger lakes?

I installed a Sony last season and it came with a thin wire for the antenna which I just let hang down into the hull below the radio. It works better than I thought it would for local, strong-signal stations. But then again, I'm in a metro area. That said, I normally just plug in my MP3 which has about 1,500 songs on it and call it a day.

I have to disagree. Foster and I have the same boat and I also forgot to order an hd antenna so I ran to autozone and got a ten dollar rubber antenna and zip tied it inside the cowl to the aluminum clamp that are glued on. Works just as good as my trucks. I also use dielectric grease on everything to prevent corrosion.
But it does work perfectly.. I do need to order an hd antenna.. Thanx for reminding me.

i think part of it is the fact that the places i go the most are in the middle of nowhere and they probably dont have many stations anyway then. It gets stations fine at home in my garage, but on the water i never get much. The lakes I frequent are 3 to 4 hours from where I live. Either way, i highly recommend making your own playlist on an ipod because most radio stations suck anyway.

I guess when you live in Florida you assume everyone else does too. We have lakes basically everywhere here so it's no mre than a ten minute drive to one or 30 to the ocean. That would explain why not so good reception up there.
Would love to use my iPod but smoked it right after nstalling my system. Was washing the interior day before going out and didn't realize the 1/4 gap where your feet go and completely waterlogged my iPod. Whole system shut down because of that. Promptly silicones the gap, stereo and Mp dried out and were ok but iPod took the hit.
Lessen learned.

I'm considering upgrading to satillite radio in my boat especially since I have the life time subcription in the truck it would only be 9 bucks to add the additional radio to the plan. What are your thoughts on this?
