Has anyone found a tutorial that says to install 787 pistons backwards and raves upside down?

I've rebuilt 3 engines this week with pistons backwards and raves upside down with top clearly marked on them. This comes from a few different areas so I'm not sure its one individual doing this. Or there is a tutorial somewhere that people are following.

Dang, I would have thought the rings would hook a port. Apparently... the raves work upside down??? LOL

They fit so they go in lol
Just so weird the volume of engines built this way.
One of them were sbt valves and they dont say top.

Well you know if you buy WSM pistons they tell you to put the arrow facing the Exhaust right? You gotta read further-er... LOL

Maybe that's it, there's not a tutorial someone has looked at and they didn't crack the SM. Always seems to be some people doing engine assembling not paying attention to details... As an 'amateur' home mechanic I don't get it, I've built car engines and these things and I don't assume anything even repeating a job I've done before, I always reference everything just to be sure I don't forget.

Well 717's face away from the carbs and 797/951 facetowards the carbs.
Also 717 and 787 crank pins face the same direction and 951 have the two center pins flipped!

So many little things to keep in mind lol

Lots of people working on these engines this is their first time. We were all there once. My first 787 I put the pistons in the wrong way but saw it before I installed the cylinders. I was pissed. I hate those piston clips. :D I don't mind doing top ends at all but I despise doing the complete engine. I am working on a vapor blaster though which will make cleaning parts much eaiser.

I really like your posts. Good stuff... I know you are busy but you should do it more often. Take Care

I wish I could. I took vacation off work to do this full time as my main buisness and it's been absolutely crazy. 16 hr days every day for the past weeks.
Back to normal work tomorrow.

Yep it is easy to get into this full bore. Easy for a hobby to turn into work. I spend too much time myself but I like working on this stuff more than I like riding them. Ha ha. I'm still a motorcycle guy at heart. Brakes are good. :D There surely are not enough knowledgeable people out there let alone those that want to help others more than themselves. If you find an honest guy that knows his stuff..... that is the best of the best. Good luck my brother. Make a difference !!
