Family owned 1996 GTI that we've had since new....well over 100 hours on the sucker, and had a little fun with it this past 4th of July....
While out on lake Lanier in GA jumping some waves, i started noticing an odd squeeking noise coming from the engine compartment....i turned around and headed to our anchored sailboat then some odd things started happening....
Full throttle and the boat wouldnt get up on plane...it was not responsive at all, almost like water in the gas...
to make a long story short, I got it back, and towed home. Just the other day I noticed this sight....
After a few odd moments, I finally figured out what happened...aparently the impeller cover came loose and shot out in the jet and broke off the vane that goes verticle in the nozzel section. Then after looking at the microfiche of the boat i started to get worried about what else i might find, being that the water tight seal was no longer there in the water behind that cover!
Well, after removal of the impeller assembly today, i was horrified.
The whole impeller assembly is shot to hell. My guess is that cover shot off, water got inside and cleaned out the bearings. The squeeking noise i heard on the water was the bearings super heating and breaking up, and the resistance of the boat to move was the shot bearings......the impellar barely spins right now, moves about 1.5 inches up and down, and you can feel the grittyness of the broken up bearings when you *try* to spin it. Also, notice how the metal part (where the impeller cap screws on) is twisted in the polymer frame (if you screw a screw into one of the three threads, you can literally twist the metal part inside).
I'm guessing I need a whole new assembly, a new nozzle, a new cover, new impeller/bearings/and shaft.
I would *like* to get the impeller off the shaft, but it wont budge. How do i remove it? In all honesty, if it's this f**** then i bet the impeller bolt is not going to budge!!!
What impeller should i go with? This boat is mainly used for cruising around the lakes and pulling skiers/wakeboarders...i saw the concord ones, but don't know/understand what pitch to get.
Also, anyone have any spare parts laying around?? :dupe:
