The only reason i say no is because i would think you'd have allot more fun with an older xp or GSX or Spx The old Xp's are fun the 1995- 1996 (1996 looks allot better i think!!) and the 1997-2003 are also very fun. They also can be found in the same price range. the 97-2003 will be more expensive though. But look into those Spx's alos those are very fun as well.

i mean i couldnt really afford anything over 1000

and this one looks like a good deal... im just looking to have some fun,im sure i will think this one is fast enough tho lol i've never even been on one lol... 800cc it shouldnt be that slow should it? what motor does these have?

I think you may want to steer clear of this particular ski as it sounds like you will possibly be spending even more money down the road to get it right. He jack-legged the repair just to get it running so he could sell it from the sounds of it. And that ski should be faster than 50 so I'm thinking the pump/prop may also need some work as well as the electricals. However, if it's an SBT motor the 50 mph might be about right.

I also have a 1996 GTX; the price seems good but i don't know enough about the electical to say if it is going to die on you or not. my gtx tops out at about 50 on smooth water so that speed sounds just like mine. it is a fun stable ski (the XP's) are a little unstable for beginners.

No, not in my opinion. Also, from my experience the 787 GTX should be about 55 mph or so as I recall.

so dont buy it guys? damn i thought i really found a good deal.... i really cant spend more then 1000 and would love to only spend 700

is it worth $700?

PWCDoc is right. You get into an older ski like this and you will fork over another $800-1000 before it runs right, and that is if you do the work yourself.

Get something newer.

Hell, I got my 96 XP for free, then sunk about $400 into it to get it running top-notch. So deals are out there if you look for them.

I know a guy locally that has 2 on a trailer that he moves from one part of his property to the next on a trailer, so he can mow around them. Find someone like that and offer them $500 including trailer and then when you sink another couple hundred into it, you may have a decent machine for under a grand.

lol i wish that guy ur talking about was more local to me lol....

in the ad the guy says the motor was rebuilt and only has 20 hours on it..... so i dn

Great, new motor...

Now you gotta replace the wear ring, possibly rebuild or replace some carbs, who knows what the impeller looks like.

Is the electrical tripping any fuses?

See, it could be a good deal, but more than likely, you would get it and within 2 or 3 trips find all the demons lurking in it that will lead to hundreds or THOUSANDS needing to be spent to get it going.

Both of the Seadoos I have were like this. They looked good at first, but both required LOTS of work to get them running and staying running.

I am happy with what I have now, but it took a couple extra grand to get here.

Being a college kid, you probably don't have a couple extra grand. So do what I did. I befriended a guy (in 1997) whose father owned a house on Possum Kingdom lake (you have likely heard the song by The Toadies) and they had a Chris Craft and two 1996 XPs. So I could go there every time we had a break and jump boat wakes.

When you get a job and steady income, this kind of deal may be perfect for you. But for now, with no income, you will buy it, ride it 3 times, it will break, and sit for 5 years before you graduate and put it in the dump.

Sorry, but I have been there, and know how it is. Unless you are a wealthy college student, but you wouldn't have mentioned that you were in college and wanted to spend a only a grand if you were wealthy and had hundreds to toss around. And time to spend rebuilding stuff.

Sooooooo.

Post pics of your camaro.

And I will post pics of my Maverick, which will most likely blow your camaro off the road :reddevil:

Just teasing.

you posted a very legitimate question and I felt the need to give you a blunt but honest answer.

oh boy they sure are! hate buying new tires tho lol...

im a full time college student but when im home i also work full time as a tire and lube tech at a garage

Well, THAT helps. My wife and I are teachers, so one day, when my old BFG T/As were pretty much worn down, I told her we were going to go do a burnout. So I taught her how to do it. It lasted WAY too long, and the rubber felt like play-doh when she was done. I could pull chunks out with my fingernails.

Anyway, we drove home slowly for the entire MILE or so it was, and I had the rims off and new tires on the next morning.

Now I have slicks to slap on so she can do that all she wants:hurray:

Burnouts are still much fun...:reddevil:

Here is the same burnout, a couple seconds later, as I walked around to get a shot of the back...good thing there was a decent wind that day.

Not since I got traction. It used to just spin the tires halfway down the track.

I was running the stock bottom end 302 (8.0:1 compression, this was built during the 70s when they were detuning to conserve fuel) but with upgraded heads, headers, intake, and rear gears, but could never get traction. Then last year, i blew that thing up. Since I have gone to a BIG roller cam, roller lifters, bored 302 with higher compression, sub-frame connectors, Cal-Trac bars, and bought the slicks. But with the extra power it is pushing, and still running the original transmission, I am afraid to drive it hard and haven't taken it to the track yet.

As soon as I get the trans rebuilt or replaced, and get a decent converter, I am back on it!

My stock converter sucks. Sucks power, sucks period.

I almost bought a built C4 trans with 2500 converter, but had to let the deal pass. Good deal too, at $400. But the shipping would have killed me.

I really need at least a 3000 converter.

Back to the jetski, for the price of owning and repairing one, you can do almost as well by renting by the day. At least until you get out of school and have more time and money at your disposal.

tru, the guy already sold it neways so im sh** out of luck.... unless i can get myself a hand me down or a super deal i wont buy one just yet
