If and/or when to winterize

2009 challenger SE (430hp) kept in a dry slip and will be used about 1 weekend per month during the ‘winter’ months in Sarasota FL. Do I need to consider winterizing at all? I can’t find any information about what constitutes enough time to warrant taking the steps and spending the $ to do this.

At a minimum it will not go longer than 5 weeks without a weekend use (it’s my perfect excuse to tell the family I have to go out).

Finally, any additional steps to take (aside from what's in the manual) if I have to do this?

I appreciate any feedback on this.

no need to winterize. BUT… if you are running in salt water… you should give it a good scrub down, and flush with fresh water before letting is sit. It wouldn’t hurt to use a little fogging oil too.

hmmm...

I hope you get some more feedback on this because I have the same delima here in Dallas. I keep mine on a hoist at the marina and it doesn't get below freezing very often here in North Texas.

I've never winterized in Houston. We usually use this time to do some maintenance and upgrades but no winterizing.

I don't think many winterize in the southeast. I have never winterized my boat or ski. This is usually my hobby time, working on them. Constantly hands on. There are the rare couple times we might see freezing temps. I usually do nothing more than putting a light next to the engine block. So far, never had a problem.

If you are not going to start it for a while, I would recommend a moisture barrier such as the spray on White lithium grease. You can spray some in your spark plug holes, turn the engine over and spray a bit more. This will keep the moisture out and keep it from getting any rust on inside around your crank and bearings........

But when you go to start it back up for the spring, be prepared for it to smoke pretty heavy for a short period of time........:cheers:

I' ve already begun the process.. engines are fogged and have antifreeze in them.. just working on the fuel sender now... summer came and went this year faster than ever it seems.....

water here is starting to get cool already, and that would suck if someone accidentally got ejected into the water...you know how these boats are!!
