I have a 1997 seadoo gtx rotax 787. Starts and idles fine but when i go to accelerate it just revs high but doesnt go any where. Checked impellers and they are clear. Impeller does not look damaged. Changed plugs. Did notice at top of engine that there are two twist off caps that are secured with wire brackets(like the old mason jars) and it appears to be leaking fluid(looks like 2-stroke oil). Dont know if this means anything. Is there a compression problem? Does gasket at this "twist-off" need to be replaced? Like I said go to accelerate but whines and doesnt go anywhere. Easy fix? Typical problem? Anyone that could help me out I would really appreciate it!! Thanks.

You describe seeing the impellor, there is a plastic composite ring around it called the wear ring - this gets worn away from sand, seaweed clogs and notches fall away if you take in gravel from being close to shoreline, if the motor revs up but there is no real forward push this is likely worn out - with a flashlight look from the back into the housing to see if more than a manila file folder would fit between the turning blade and this tube/ring. Another possibility is the splines on the driveshaft or rear flywheel/pto have not been greased and worn away, these take a lot of abuse when branches are drawn into the pump body, and you will be able to examine them only when the pump is seperated from the motor.
