So, I am looking at a seadoo it is a 97 Sea-doo XP the guy that is selling it wants 3000 Canadian dollars. He rebuilt everything in the engine and it has 0 hrs on it. He thinks the oil pump is not working properly so he is either getting a new 1 to put on it or making it so you would have to mix the oil and gas since its a 2 stroke.
Would this be a good deal or do you think i could find something better?
p.s. a trailer is coming with the seadoo and is included in the 3000 dollars
I am also a 19 year old teen so thats why i dont know anything about sea-Doo's
Thanks for you help

Sounds high to me, even with a new motor, find out if its a new rebuilt (crate motor), or just new to the ski.

Even with a new motor, and trailer, the price should be around $2000.00.

it is rebuilt engine. he bought all the parts and gaskets and whatever else is in the engine to rebuild it. so its all new. Thanks for your help.

So thats 2854.69 USD. I bought a 96 GTI for $900 USD last summer and a newer trailer (04) for $600. Mine was in nice condition and working great (carbs rebuilt) but motor not rebuilt recently. So given this was only a year older I would say its a big high. If you have craigslist in your area I would compare there. Also if he lives on the water that is a big deal cause you can go for test drive, not sure up there if you have to pay, but where I live most folks will charge you $50 for a test drive to meet you at the nearest place.

hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply and yeah it does help out a bit. and we live 10 mins away from the water so hes going to drive it there for me free of charge and test it free of charge.. the seadoo looks like its in great condition like the hull has minimum scratches on it and they did the water turf stuff all on the parts where the feet goes with the rebuilt engine and i think he also fixed teh trim and seedo i forgot to mention the jet propultion thinger is new too(sorry for lack of terminology im only 19 and dont know much about seadoos) so ites pretty much the whole seadoo was redone. i have looked online and i saw that there are many other Seadoo XP same year for up to 3500 and the losest 3000 which is the one im looking at. so i dont know if people are just money hungry or if im actually getting a deal.

That does sound high, I didn't realize the exchange rate was that different.

I am guessing from what you told me that the owner rebuilt the engine himself, a crate engine with a warranty would have been much better.

Here is a list of things you can check:

Look at the wear ring for any physical damage, I doubt that you will be able to check the clearance, without taking the reverse gate off, but if you can the clearance between the impeller and wear ring should be no more than .040". Also take a look at the impeller for dings or nicks. This is not a deal breaker it will cost you about $50.00 if you do it yourself.

Check the engine compression, it should be around 150psi and no less than 130psi, with no more than 10% difference between cylinders.

Check to see if the original grey fuel lines. If it does you are looking at about $150.00 to replace the lines, filters, fuel switch.
