hey guys. i have a 2001 sea-doo xp that has a problem. when i put the lanyard key in, it does nothing, but when i press the start button 5 times it gives me a short beep and then a longer beep. the gauges work after the first time i press the start button, but if i press it a second time it will give me 2 quick beeps then all the electric will shut off including the gauges. if i press the lanyard in hard, it does 3 short beeps, :banghead: the ski sat for about a year and a half..but the motor is not siezed and when i spin the spindle in the back with a rench it turns freely so the motor is deffinitly not seized. does anybody have any idea why it doesnt beep when i put the lanyard in? and what those other beeps mean??? if so can you please give me an idea of how to fix it or ways to trouble shoot? thank you very much, i appreciate your time.

with a full charged battery, press your start/stop switch. your gauges should come up and stay lit/active for 30 seconds, this tests whether or not your mpem is good or not. if they do, it is either your post or key. search the forum to find out how to test the post with a multi-meter. or just go to a stealership and ask them to try and re-program your key for you. its 35 bucks for the re-progarming and if you have to get a new key it 45+35 to progarm it, and then your on the water:cheers:

I had this exact problem and it is the rom chip in the key that has gone bad. The only fix is to find your paper work and head on to the stealership and get a new key programed

Jason is prob wrong...its more than likely the DESS post...not the key. 90% is the Post, 10% its the key.

I am pretty sure I have a used post for sale if you need one.

Ah sorry forgot to ad that i tried someone elses key on my ski and it gave one long beep (wrong key) and mine gives nothing. ;)

thank you!!

thanks guys!! so if i buy a new DESS post, and a key and program the key i should be set and ready to go? around how much would the DESS post cost me?

I sell used ones for $40 shipped. I think they are $90 new.

Keys are usually $60 and most dealers will program it free if you buy it from them. you have to have your machine there and the DESS post has to work.

okay, before i make a move let me talk to my mechanic and ill see what he has. thank you guys again very much for the advice!
