Hydro Turf question

On my 96 gsx I riped out the old foot pads and then filled the rivet holes with jb weld and then put my new Hydro Turf on. Has anyone ever put there hydro turf over the old stuff? Sounds like a dumb questions but it was a pain in the a$$ popping all the rivets out last time, I know its a lazy way to do things but would it work?

i pound the rivets flush with deck, then swap silicone over it, then lay the turf.
