Hurricane Sandy 1999 Seadoo Challenger Damage

Good morning all,
I'm from NJ and needless to say we got hit. Real bad. My house is on the water and the water surged 10 feet above normal level and got about 4 feet above the bulkhead. The drain plugs were out of my challenger and GTI ski. They did not float away but they filled with water. I'm sure water got into the hulls. We were not allowed into the shore area until only a few days ago. I filed claims for both the boat and ski. The insurance adjuster is coming next Saturday. Can someone give me some tips on what to tell the adjuster, because visually nothing looks wrong. I'm sure there is severe damage in those engines and to the wires. What are the damages and other things I should look for after salt water rose into the hull and sat for about a day? I was told not to touch or clean anything until the adjuster came. Sorry for the damage. We were supposed to have a nasty storm from Sandy hitting a cold front... but lucky for me in Pittsburgh... the cold front stopped in Ohio. (They got the winter storm)

Anyway... the insurance guy...


I'm not sure what to tell him. He should know that saltwater is death to the engines, and electronics. Unfortunately... he may want to "Total" them... and you may not get much $$$ for them. (book price is all they will offer)

If I was in your possition... I would asses the damage myself... and then see what they offer. If they want to total them... you can probably buy them back... and still get some $$$ out of the deal. (To do clean up)

Basically... you need to get them drained, and dry... and then purged with fresh water. After that... figure out if the salt water got into the electrical box, and engine.

It all depends what you find out, and what they offer. All you can tell the insurance guy is that the hulls were full of salt water, and the engines are done. (he should understand)

Sorry for your losses, Just a suggestion, maybe take a bunch of pics of the crafts full of water before you drain them out, to show the adjuster.
