hull repair

Due to an Accident in the weekend.
me and a mate crashed into each other long story but my ski got the throttle from the other one against the hull and the has taken of the paint and gone through to the fiberglass, a small section has is frayed but I think most of it is cosmetic. I seen gel coat for sale do you think its worth just putting that over it or take it in to get fiberglass repaired.

Gel coat...

If all that popped off was gel coat, then you can probably get a gel coat repair kit and fix it yourself. If you can push on it with your hand and it's spongy, then the hulls integrity has been breached and I'd recommend professional repair.
