Hull/engine swap

Hi all. I just purchased my first jet ski, or 2 as the case may be. The first is a 1990 spi with a 1992 yellow 587 engine, single carb. The second is a 1993 sp but has no engine or jet drive. The spi's steering locked up on the previous owner so they purchased the the sp for parts or for the hull, depending on how much they wanted to tackle. They didn't tackle either but decided to sell after both sat in a garage for 3-4 years. The deal was worth it for me to make the purchase and do the work to hopefully have 1 operational jet ski.
Going into this, I know the carb will need to be rebuilt. After looking over both ski's, I feel the sp is the better of the two hulls. So the task I am facing is to remove all engine and jet drive components from the spi and install into the sp. The fuel and oil tanks in the sp appear to be intact as well as the steering linkage and all other console buttons, etc.
My first step was to order a manual, should be here anyday.
Next step is to ask for any and all advice to complete the project.
It will be a couple of weeks before I turn the first wrench so anything anyone has to offer would be greatly appreciated.
I have never worked on a jetski before so don't know what to expect. Any advice on things to check to make sure they are operational so I can at least make sure I am not wasting my time would be great.
Thank you in advance.

:agree:

The steering is probably just a bad cable. It would be much easier to swap the cable.

BUT... if you just want the other hull.... then there really isn't any advice, or things to watch for. Just remove one part from the ski with the engine, and install it in the second hull. Since you don't have a lot of experiance... I don't recommend pulling all the parts at once... you may forget something, or where things go. But... we will be here to help if that happens.

It wasn't the cable, something in the handle bar functioned locked up. The previous owner disassembled that part of it so I would need to remove the handle bar assembly from the sp to install on the spi. I strongly considered that and still might once I get the manual.
Thank you for the advice.

exhaust and fuel filter

Okay, today was rainy so I had a chance to look at these 2 skis to see what I am getting myself into. First, the exhaust. The spi (with motor) has what appears to be sometype of racing exhaust part and a short green muffler.exhaust 2.jpgexhaust 3.jpg The sp (w/o motor) has a one piece exhaust piece, that comes off the motor, plus a longer gray muffler.exhaust 1.jpg I have pics attached. I want to know what is the best setup. I would assume the racing exhaust setup would be better but would like to confirm from experienced people.
Next, fuel filters. On the spi, the fuel filter is in the engine compartment on some type of plastic mounting plate with another type of device/part.fuel filter spi.jpg I don't know what that device/part is. On the sp, the fuel filter is under the dash and I don't see that other part.fuel filter sp.jpg The sp doesn't have a motor so didn't know if perhaps that device/part was mounting on the motor for that model.
Any help would be appreciated. I have attached pics of this too.

I just realized the part next to the fuel filter is the fuel pump. So now my question is where does the fuel filter mount on a 1993 sp?
