hey I just rebuilt carbs and now I have no top end speed registering 44 mph.. when before needed rebuild, when it ran right, 55 -57 mph..... what am i missing.....
1998 gtx limited..... didn't mess with the linkage, it is as it came off... which screw to mess with? the one on top of the carb... or under at the linkages?

Is the high speed screw turned correctly? If it is a dual carb then be sure the linkages are set right.

List your model and year on your profile and people will be able to help you more quickly.

Be sure your high speed screw is "gently bottomed out", and then backed out no more than 1/4 turn. The high speed screw is supposed to have a plastic cap over it, don't remove the cap. There is one on each carb. It should be located near the linkage arm. Do you have a shop manual? It should show you in there. It gives the settings for the idle screw and the low speed screw also. I don't know what those are for your machine.

Did you change the needle springs? I don't know much about those, but I've heard they can be tricky.

Click on User CP (control panel) at the top of this page, then click on Edit Your Details. List your GTX where it says to list your craft and it will show up on the threads like mine does where it says 1999 XP Limited. You will find that people will answer more quickly if they know if they know the craft they are dealing with.

nerdlingerthanks for the info.... I did bottom out the screw"gently" and then 1/4 turn back out.... one of the plastic caps is missing.. is that ok or should I have done something different. will test it out later today...... having to wait for the thunder and lighting to go away... i have no access to shop manuals so I am reading stuff from this site.

thanks
Dan

It is ok if the cap is missing. It is just to keep you from opening it past that 1/4 mark. It has a little arm on it that fits into a slot on the carb so the range of motion is 0-1/4 and stops on both ends.

Just make sure you don't open it too much in the future.

Now that the high is set...set the low screw. (spring loaded screw with a cross bar on top) You can the pto screw when you look down at the carbs.
Factory settings 1.75. Unscrewing it richens the fuel. Screwing it in leans the fuel.
Good Luck:cheers:

thanks for the input and advise .... to all of you thanks:cheers:. now maybe i can have some more fun... after the storms pass!!!!!

the idle screw is easy enough to figure out, so i am guessing the high speed screw is the one that is under the linkage?
