How to reinstall rotary shaft

Hey guys I have a 97 SPX I removed the rotary shaft assembly from because it seemed like the timing was off right after i set it correctly so i thought the gear may be stripped. But it llooked good so now I am trying to reinstall it and am having trouble getting it in the final 1/8-1/4 inch and I dont wanna hit on it to hard. I was using a small hammer and small piece of wood to hit it in with. Any suggestions ?

It's probably not aligned with the bearing on the other side. I believe the service manual tells you not to do it the way you did it but to do it only with the cases split. That being said I know other people have done it this way, perhaps rotating the crank a little while tapping it in?

perhaps thats the case. Service manual just says to install it with a special "pusher" tool. I couldnt find this tool anywhere only thing I could find was the puller tool

Your probably going to have to rock the crankshaft to get it to go.

You just may be off 1/2 a spiral tooth or so.
