How do you jump the solenoid to see if it is bad or the starter? I read a screwdriver and touch the posts on solenoid. Thanks

That will do it. or a pair of rubber tipped pliers, touch the jaws to the posts of the solenoid.
If starter cranks, then you have a bad solenoid...if it doesn't crank then starter is most likely bad.

thanks I will try that now. Well I tried it and only got sparks. ps (Im female so some questions might seem stupid) but bare with me Im mechanically inclined. Do I need the key plugged in?

No need to put the lanyard on.
The only questions that are stupid are those that ARE NOT asked.

Don't worry about the sparks just keep it a sec longer to see if starter kicks in.

OCOD...get your mind out of the gutter.

Seadoo buddy; enough with the "wishful thinking"..lol

Hey jammyjam; i had that same issue, and it was the entire mpem(computer, brain, etc)....so, jumping the solenoid and it cranking can mean a few things... I was lucky to have a spare $400 MPEM laying around...
so, BEFORE you go spending tons of cash on a starter, etc... just MAKE sure that's what it is...even if you need a local mechanic off craigslist to diagnose it for like $50...
i replaced a few parts before i got it going...thats only cuz i had them laying around...

96----"jammyjam"...now who is doing the wishful thinking.

similar problem,93' sp 580 no click, crank, or anything.using start button only,i didnt try to jump solenoid. started yest just fine today nothin...???

It happens.
Find solenoid in electrical box and jump terminals with screwdriver.
If starter works then its the solenoid. Usually
Check wire from switch. May be came off?
