there is someone coming up next Tuesday that wants to buy my jet ski, its a 1999 seadoo spx 800, and they are giving me a fair price for it seeing how it is winter time, but how can i dewinterize it so i can start it and let him hear it run, i winterized it last month, took the water out of it by reving it while having it tilted back, then i sprayed the engine with anti corrosion film then i fogged it until she shut down, now i have to get her running again so i can let this guy hear it, what do i have to do?

put in a fully charged battery, pull the spark plugs, place rag over the plug holes and ground the spark plugs leads if equipped with grounding posts, spin it over a little bit to blow out the storage oil (I don`t know how much you sprayed in there.) reinstall plugs, use fresh fuel, and fire it up... that simple!... it will smoke a bit, don`t run it out of the water for more than a minute or 2, you don`t want to heat up the carbon seal...

if he just wants to hear it run and do a compression test, you can start the ski a few times with a few minutes of cooling in between... if you want it to run any longer, hook the hose up and proceed as you would when flushing, but keep the carbon seal in mind when doing so... I don`t recommend revving the crap out of it. wouldn`t show much anyways with NO load on the engine, and risk trouble with a cold engine in cold weather.
Good luck with the sale!

How much are you selling it for? thats a desirable seadoo. I havent bought one of those yet, im always looking too but those sell quick when they are available.

As long as no water goes in...just put the battery in and make sure it starts. Sometimes too much fogging oil can foul a plug.

Just dont run it longer than 45sec, and let it cool a while before restarting.

Fog it again when you guys are done.

I'd pull it out of where ever you have it and start it normally then connect the hose. You say winterized but in reality all you did was fog it. Being in NY you really should be putting antifreeze in it, good chance you won't get all the water out especially from the cylinders. I never do anything fancy when I break the stuff out in the spring, I start it up on the old plugs run it on the hose for a few minutes. Let it cool down, do it again, let it cool and pop in some new spark plugs and grease what needs to be greased--even though I did it before I winterized it.

Yeah and do it before he comes over so you can make sure it fires right up.

the guys giving me 2400 for it, im not too sure if thats below or higher than market value, and yeh ill post pics later

Well thats about what they go for around here, i saw one once for $1000 in great shape but was gone the same day. That is one that many people would love to have even though it is 50 lbs heavier than the 98 spx. Its the color scheme that people love

Why was it 50 pounds heavier and where did it gain the weight??? By the way 2400 for that ski in off season is a great deal for seller!!!

Here is a nice reference chart that shows all models from 88 on.

http://seadoosource.com/seadoomodelreference.html

It gives a little info as well.

I am not sure where the extra weight came from, it must be in the stucture, if you have ever crushed a hull you would see that when you look into your hull and you see the bottom, that isnt the bottom there is a fiberglass liner then foam then more fiberglass, in the 99 maybe they beefed up the fiberglass or maybe used a different type of resin, ive just read that it gained weight. Those always sell well even in the off season because they are rare, i see more 95xp 800 around here. I actually have never seen one on the water. When they come up for sale they go quick, i saw one with a damaged hull sell for $1800 and when i say damage there was a big crack on the side right under the seat.
Thats why i dont have one they cost too much for me,

As far as i can tell, in a 4000 mile radius from me there is only yours, the one in orlando, one in atlanta which may even be a 98 it has a cover on it and you can only see the black bottom, and one in maryland. But i only searched 99 seadoo spx, if i searched using seadoo spelled seadoo or sea doo or 1999 99 i may find a few more but usualy seadoo spelled the way i did the search gets the most results. So yeah you have 25% of the market on all of craigslist in the USA. I looked up seadoo 96 xp and i got a ton of them just within 250 miles, im sure if i did the 4000 mile search there would be hundreds of the,

yip.. they are rare. I've been casually looking for one for about a year now, i'd like to replace my 96 with one because I love the color scheme so much more, but i've only seen one for sale within 100 miles of me in that time.

I swear the 98s are even harder to find than the 99s. I wish seadoo would release the build numbers of all the X-4s...

$2400 seems high for the age, unless the person really wants it.

I paid $2800 for a 2002 XP w/2009 single trailer back in 2009. Also had a fresh rebuild w/1 year on it and Special K mods (which I later removed).

The 98 and 99 garner more $$ than the 96-97s do. And we all know prices are all over the board depending on location.

I have 2 97s to clean/fix up for spring sale and after doing all the upkeep (fuel system, broken electrics, pipe weld, etc) I intend on getting close to 3g with no trailer each.

I have a 98 spx that we are finishing up that we expect $2000 with no trailer, around here in the spring i should have no problem. I come across 98s more around here. Im picking one up on saturday. Never had my hands on a 99 though, im afraid to get one because i know ill want to keep it, then id have to sell my 96, but hey its not that hard to swap a seat and a hood out.

I bought a 98 spx this summer for $200..............that being said it had caught on fire in the hull, ruined all the wires, guy flipped it over in the water to put it out and never got the water back out of the engine. I stole the raves off of it for my 96 gsx and sold it the next day for $300. Was a good looking ski tho...woulda needed one of everything
