Id like to verify that my oil pumps are working properly. I do not mix my oil with gas. I use the oil pumps.

Today I pulled the 2 small lines coming from the pump off of the rotary valve/motor. I left them connected to the oil pump. I cranked the motor assuming to see a small amount of oil leaving the lines. I did not. I didnt want to pull the pumps off the motor to check them unless I absolutely had to. I did have plenty of oil coming through the oil filters. At this point Im pretty sure I have oil going in but not coming out.

Should I expect to see oil coming out the the small lines when cranking the motor?

If not , how should I check them?

Thanks

Awhile back when I put 2 new motor in my boat I checked the oil pumps with the drill method. Where you take them off and use a cordless drill to spin the pump to confirm oil comes out. But if theyre in, i wouldn't bother with that method, I would pull the carbs off so you can see your rotary valve then remove the rotary valve cover. Then remove plugs and ground plug wires to the grounding lugs. Then have your woman hold the starter, with the engine easily spinning (no spark plugs) you should see oil coming out of the two oil needles.

This make sense?

Edit, don't bother removing the rotary valve cover ... I kinda was thinking too much ... lol you'll be able to see the oil inlets without the need to remove rotary valve cover. Sorrry for the confusion.

That does make sense. That is what I did. No oil came out of the needle. Unsure if the needles were the issue, I pulled the lines off the needles. Cranked the motor and no oil came out of the lines.

At this point should I assume my pump isnt working?? Im getting the same result on both motors.

Thanks

The pump doesn't put out that much oil.

With the engine at idle, and you holding the pump arm to "Full"... you will see the oil pulse back and forth (alternating the 2 hoses) about an 1/8" every second.

If you want to remove the pump from the engine, you can use a drill to spin it, and check it's output. The test is outlined in the manual.

Hmmm. maybe use a little mirror (emtpy makeup case mirror works well) and see if you can see whats going on around the oil pump. You may find that those little weed eater oil lines may have cracked leaking oil somwhere. Otherwise you may have to horse around trying to remove the pump off the front of the motor and use the drill method.

Im a little unsure what you meant by holding the pump arm to full.

Does that mean to extend the cable from oil pump to carb?
Basically saying that oil will not inject until higher rpms are reached?

Thanks

with ski running at idle on the hose, take hand on oil pump arm (where cable is attached) and turn it by hand farther than it is, watch it start smoking --- but, after u are done, shut it off, and look with mirror and ensure that the pump cable is riding in arm slot properly again, ive seen em come out of slot before

its possible that oil needles can get clogged. Engine off, I would use a clean hose attached to the needle and blow thru it.

i am paronoid about my pumps as well and would like to know if i can just run pre-mix. can i run pre-mix gas if i have a gear driven oil pump on my challenger? the pump is lubricated by the injection oil so will it burn up if i just run mix?

The factory oilpumps need to be removed. You have to get a block of plate in place of the oil pump.
oil injection is a bit scary but if u take care of ur machine and check ur equipment often you'll be ok.
