How Strong is Your Boat?

I have a 2001 Islandia 12 seater. It says it has 240hp.

If i get more than about 8 people in my boat it just doesn't have enough power to carry them effectively. It won't plane, it bogs down and seems like it's far weaker than it should be. Normally I only have between 4 to 6 people in the boat and it does fine.

But I'm wondering if others have similar or different experiences because I'm wondering if this is something that can be repaired.

Thanks!

Check the compression on your engine. A ten year old engine may be getting a little tired. You should read 150psi on all cylinders. Anything below around 130 and it may be time for a rebuild. You should also post in the Mercury section, they may have more info.

I think that sounds about right. The 12 person rating i think figures each person at 150 lbs. so that isnt very reliable. 8 people in a boat that size with 240 HP is pushing it in my opinion.

I have a '04 islandia that I just purchased a couple of weeks ago. At first, it had some rocks blocking some of the jet and I would only get about 30 mph, after getting that cleared, I got about 35 mph. I also believe my impellor is worn down and the clearance is greater than recommended, so that is hurting my performance. The above was with 4 adults and 2 kids as a reference. I am planning on replacing the impellor this next winter....
