Hood latch post loose?

I i have a 98 gtx limited, At the end off last season the hood latch cracked while riding. I replaced the latch but noticed that the post the latch connects to has some radial play. Is this normal or should this post not move at all.

You can tighten the two M6 x 25 thru-bolts:

That image doesn't show the post. Yes, that post must be tight and adjusted for height and position. There is a nut underneath.
