Ok. I have just started up my 1997 gtx 787 after completely rebuilding the top end. I reset the carbs to the factory settings. It fires right up, but sits at a high idle. After about 20 seconds it lowers to normal idle. Then after about 5-10 seonds it goes back to the higher idle. Any ideas on what could cause this?

It could be a air leak around the carb intake gaskets. Remove the air box cover and leave the spark arrester in place. Start it up on the hose, and spray wd-40 around the intake area and see it the rpm's go up. If it does it has a air leak that needs to be repaired.
