Hey guys,

First time on the forum. The old man has owned the Seadoo for a year now and we all love it! They are so much fun.
We have noticed that there is a lot of white substance on the cover and under the cover of the engine. We are not sure whether the head gasket is leaking coolant or if it is something else?

The ski is a GTX 155 4-tec. If anyone has any ideas or advice that would be fantastic

Cheers KB.

Your ski should have a closed loop cooling system Meaning it has a separate tank that cools the engine using antifreeze. So, no lake water actually goes through the engine.

Take a look at your coolant tank. Make sure there is antifreeze in it and not just water. My thoughts are, if you are leaking coolant that two things should happen. You should be losing it thus the coolant level should be decreasing and getting lower. And, if you have a leak it would likely show the color if your antifreeze at the points that it is leaking.

Ride the ski around and get it up to temp. Then remove the seat and ride it and look for any leaks.

You can add a Florissant dye to your antifreeze and drive it around. Then using a black light look for the dye.

I think he means to remove the seat then ride the ski some more to detect any leaks

Hey guys thanks heaps for the advice. Will take it for a spin this week and check it with the seat up. haha yeah I know it doesn't run water through the motor, I meant whether it was water from the dam is splashing under the seat and cargo area into the engine bay and drying on the motor (sorry guys poor description). But I guess it wouldn't dry as white spots on the motor if it is just water from the dam. and the coolant level is fine. It is sitting not far below max. Ill have a squiz at those manuals mkov608
Might be a stupid question, but with the ealier models have a simular system and manuals to the newer models? I forgot to mention the ski is a 2013 GTX
cheers

"Water from the dam"??? What are you talking about?

It doesn't run water ....? Are you trying to say you understand there is a closed loop cooling system? Sure lake/ocean water doesn't go through the engine's cooling system, but it does go through the exhaust system to keep it cool.

If you are getting some water in the bilge, and it's getting on the engine, it's not a problem. It happens to me all the time. Just fill a spray bottle with a 50/50 mix of water and vinegar, and rag wrench the engine.

For both of my older skis 95 & 99, I had to purchase Clymer manuals. I was pleasantly surprised when I found I was able to download manuals after purchasing a pair of '02 4-tecs last August. Plus, the previous owner gave me the e-manuals on CDROM.
