hey guys i just picked up my new 97 speedster and first on my to do list is install a head unit and 4 speakers!.... im just wondering how/what you guys used to mount the head unit and were is best, also what did you splice into for power to the headunit? and if it could possible harm any electrical parts in the engine due to different voltage draws?!?! hopefully someone can help me out!!

thanks alot guys!

yk, search my profile for pics and there is also a post i did with the radio diagram.
as for the radio, i installed an alpine ipod only head unit....(much easier to navigate thru alot of music and wont skip at all!) and speaker i used "cheap" (i got them on sale) mb quarts 6x9...i was going to add 4 but then when i heard it i thought two was enough.....
as far as amperage draw...look at the radio you are looking at ....the more power it has the more amperage it will pull....if am just chillin on the lake w boat off with radio on i think i have had mine on for at least a couple of hours...but it might vary with battery and radio....i am using optima blue top....

Your boat is a totally different setup, so it will be different. I have a 98, same as Tony8a. There is a nice spot on these for a radio and it even had a factory plug there for power and ground. Several memebrs here have done radios on other boats. The 97 may even have a plug for a radio option on it somewhere. Just seach in the modifiy area and see what you can come up with. Adding the radio made no difference to my boat. I added an amp and 6 speakers. I ended up adding a second battery for peace of mind, but it isnt necessary for just a radio.

No it can easily handle a basic radio. No Worries!!

I think it is personal preference and what you can get a good deal on really. I prefer Kicker marine speakers, lots of others on here have had great luck with Polk, and of course JBL are good. Any of those along with MTX are good speakers. As long as you buy marine stuff, you should be good with any of them.

sterio question?

Before I do something else stupid, I have a 97 GTX (jump started jet ski, wiped out electric box), I want to install an MP3 player I have to a set of speakers with an amp 150 watts, I was thinking that I may need a 2nd Battery as not to disrupt the jet skis electric system, can
i do this and wire the batterys together so they get charged or will I end up blowing another electric Box.. amy advice or experiance getting sound on one of these things would be helpful. Thanks in advance, Bobby
