I have a friends 2004 Seadoo GTX Wake edition, and the steering cable lock ( 277000784 ) had broke, and I have bought the new part to replace it. However, I feel there is something missing or just not right with the end of the steering cable. When looking at some images of new steering or used steering cables I find that I am missing these two items on the cable I am putting back together. My question is do I need them to make the cable function properly and what do they do?

Here are the part numbers I am referring to:

277000441

277001583

The parts in question are number 44.A and 51.

Here is an image of exactly what I am wondering about:

Those are rubber seals, each end of the cable has two seals. These are to keep water and debris out of cable and prevent water intrusion which eventually leads to rust and cable failure. Either swap them off the old cable if they are still good, or order new ones for that model ski.

Thanks a lot Rob,

Do they affect fitment or functionality at all or just to prevent rust and water intrusion ?

I appreciate your reply.

They will be required on the ski, steering is super important, if cable locks up from water ingress/intrusion thats a dangerous ride.

I guess you could say they do affect functionality cause after a while if they aren't there water gets in.

You can slide them off your old cable, or purchase new ones. I am actually purchasing a batch of these for my old 2 stroke skis, the end of the cable that is connected to nozzle in the water, those usually become brittle. The ones inside of ski that connect to handlebars are usually ok as they are not exposed to elements such as water submersion, UV etc.

Got ya, Thanks for the explanation or overall clarification. I really appreciate it. Now I wish they would be little cheaper. At $10 a piece seems over priced for tiny pieces of rubber! Any place you know that sells them for less then $10?

Ive been creepin on ebay, but yes they are pricey for what they are. I know that SBTs aftermarket cables do come with them installed already but OEM cables are the best.
